It's a good article. But damn: And if you follow the link to CNET's 2018 review of "best VPNs", you see that VyprVPN is top-rated. One of the factors is "Number of server locations: 70+". But they didn't bother to verify that Many of them are actually in Amsterdam, Singapore, Dallas and Miami. Does it matter that Stockholm servers are actually in Amsterdam? Or Moscow servers in Amsterdam? Maybe not. But Algiers servers are apparently in Israel (Kiryat-Matalon, near Tel Aviv). That could be iffy. And the HMA review! They don't mention that HMA will pwn its users. Also that over half of their servers aren't where claimed. Many in Miami, Seattle, London and Prague.
Be cautious, free VPNs are selling your data to 3rd parties May 28, 2018 https://thenextweb.com/contributors...ee-vpns-are-selling-your-data-to-3rd-parties/
Well, I'm sure that his ISP would have outed him just as readily. It's true that many VPNs will provide data to LEA. But we know that PIA doesn't retain any useful data, from that US case, a couple years ago. Or at least, that they didn't then. I'm very confident that neither AirVPN nor IVPN retain logs. However, it's generally impossible to know who retains what. That's why I recommend using nested VPN chains. Because any one VPN doesn't know both who/where you are, and what you're doing online. That's the same rationale behind three-relay Tor circuits.
