Some of my family has asked a good question. Why can't authorities follow the money of people who pay for the fake antiviruses? There must be some kind of money trail that would lead to the creators?

They actually do do this. There are a lot of obstacles though.

    1) Malware Authors don't just throw their real names out there. They're careful about distribution and payments etc and they can cover their tracks.

    2) They often operate within or through foreign countries, which don't care that much about them and/or aren't willing to share information with countries that do care.

When countries play nice we actually do catch a lot of bad guys.

Ah that makes sense since many are Russian and Chinese. Those countries aren't too willing to help the US I think.

Scared? No. But you bet your behind they tread carefully around China, considering that country holds a lot of us in their hands. Screwing with them or barking too much would be economic suicide. With Russia, it's incredibly sensitive considering they are a major part of Mideast issues. It's not fear, it's just plain good politics.

Also, I would love nothing more than to see the erasure of anti-malware companies. If we could reach the point where we wouldn't need them anymore, it would be fantastic.

AV/ Security companies will always be necessary. There will always be people trying to take advantage of others via computers and there will always be people creating products to defend against this.

Yes scared. Plus in Russia its not against the law. They even got a 1 percent copyright tax set out. So the people can do what they want they just get taxed on the money they make for the copyright for compensation.
