Alright so someone on here pointed out Vaultwiki or vice verse. I think that is an awesome idea. Someone and myself offered to pay for the license so we can have it added. The money spent for me will be paid back in multitudes in saving me time on gaining knowledge. I guess....typical really...people as a lot of the same questions and many of the power users (definitely now me:rolleyes: ) have it repeat themselves all the time. Hence, the need for a wiki! I am hoping everyone will vote YES!:thumb: So we can convince wilders....whoever runs this place to add it. Someone and myself will gladly pay the yearly subscription so Wilders will never have to bother paying it...they just need to add it.

Please show your support and vote yes!:thumb: This will save all of us a lot of time and make this place far more productive..who can argue with productivity!

    No.

The more addons added to the forum software = the more chances they will break everything up = the more things for the admins to worry about = the more forum staff required to maintain the wiki = the more vulnerable the forum from being hacked. Pinned threads work fine for anything important to know.

    No.

i highly disagree. wikis are far more adaptive and can allow immeasurable more input and get content created faster and more accurately. You want to make a guide for everything than? I highly doubt it but throw some crowd sourced action and we have guide for nearly anything needed.

The little extra help that would be required to keep it running can't be that much. It would be a great source to bring in more traffic too...plus it is free. Also the time saved would be huge....have you ever repeated yourself here? or seen the same question asked before? i bet you have. Problem solved....please refer to the wiki. Thank you come again.

Sorry, but I too think no: normal thread in a forum are something alive: works in progress or problems and ideas in progress. Actually happens that users ask the same thing again and again without first doing a search, but many questions and solutions grow and change while the threads develop, so I think that a wiki could crystallize the discussion and the ideas.

how so? I would love to find an easy guide to how to run some XXX program or pull Blank blank off but i have no clue what the best option is. Well here is a wiki from XXXXX members saying these are the only good VMs and VPNs and a quick guide to how to use and install them with a quick reference list with all the sources you need to know....if you run into a issue just post at the bottom and we can help. That is a hell of a lot more intuitive than 15 forum thread scattered all over the forum with more information than anyone ever needs to read since so much of it is case by case basis. The amount of useless reading i am probably going to do to figure out half of what i want to do is such a waste. Plus i am sure i'll waste some people's time asking questions that would have been answered in a wiki.

oh wait i found this VPN provider! they seem good lets add them....members check them out and say awesome they are great! Added...boom Stifled? hardly. The time wasted do unnecessary reading and random searching can be used productively. I hate wasting time and i am about to waste tons because for whatever reason guides for this stuff is scarce.

Again as you state alive.....it grows and has far too much unnecessary info for 90% of the people who read through trying to do their do diligence. That is wasted time and time is money.

Hate to say it but this discussion is meaningless. Only one vote that counts and I think I can guess what that is.

And I disagree with your disagreement. Then again, it's the forum admins/owners who have the right to do anything to the forum. If they're not interested, they won't add any wikis regardless if 98% of the members here voted "Yes".

Have you ever seen an article in a wiki that is so untrue because it hasn't been updated for ages? As usual, great idea, but the implementation is not going to go as smooth as what you think it would be. Besides, some members here have their own websites/blogs which can serve as good references.

if a wiki gets outdated you think a sticky thread is better?

Yes, because you don't need an addon to make sticky threads.

wow that is probably some of the worse "logic" i have ever heard here. Seriously is that your best answer? With that mentality we would never have progress in life.

The pros aren't proven, while the cons are pretty obvious... At least one of the biggest con seems paid for... I'll take a neutral stance for now.

myself and someone else have offered to pay for it so it is free in terms of the sites mods and owners.

I even through an offer to pay for it at NBR.

Notice how your statement had no apparent effect upon some?

I'll consider it as a compliment, Mr. Faithful. Thank you. But as I said previously, let the admins/owners to decide whether a wiki is necessary or not. Whether the additional maintenance is worth to take or not. Whether they want to make this forum to be more than just a forum and add extras or not.

i would be pretty surprised if the admin is so oblivious to uses wants and needs. If users really wanted it it would be surprising to see any site ignore it's user base. So someone's comment on only one vote that matters is ridiculous. Almost anyone can get persuaded (SP?).

You know why didn't you just include "Yes" as the only option if you don't take any opposite views?

I don't understand the point of a wiki when there are sticky threads? Also, I would think that questions that are often asked many times over, are questions that violate the forum rules to begin with, such as A vs B threads. There is already a "Recommended Reading" thread I believe in one of the sections as well. I think the moderators and owner probably have enough to watch over as it is, and, it is indeed their website. I think your comments about ignoring the user base are quite off. So far, the only one really fighting for it is you. Why not just give them the benefit of the doubt and let their answer end it? I'm quite certain they are responsible and reasonable people who have their reasons for denying such a request.

I would appear to me that the OP is more inclined towards a Petition than he or she is towards a Poll. :cautious:

To be fair, I can understand the desire for a wiki. I am just of the opinion that there is a wealth of knowledge here already, if one simply searches. It's true some things may be out of date, but in those cases the question can be asked again for fresh information. One thing is certain, not much good will come out of pushing too hard.

i do and i countered them with a response since you never really supported your point of view. It is called a debate/discussion -_-

i 100% agree but the problem with a thread with the info you want is that it is filled with 75% of information that is irrevelent....that is a huge time waste....reading information that is of no use is just plain wasteful and why i stated above on how a good wiki set up would be able to consolidate that information much better and save everyone a lot of time. I have skimmed ~6 threads on just one simple topic...that could have been solved with a single wiki and i still dont have all the info i need....that is horrible waste of time. most people would have already given up but i really need a solution. do you see my point>?

i love reading and learning but i have a limited amount of time and space in my memory and i rather use that space and time wisely.

Yep, but what you haven't figured out is what takes place on this forum isn't based on debate/discussion/voting. It is the owners decision!

I have already stated why I don't want a wiki in post #2 in this thread. Heck, even adding a spoiler tag can break things up. The admins need to backup the whole database before making any critical changes. If the changes turned out to be destructive, then the admins will have to restore it which will make this forum inaccessible for up to several hours until all have been recovered. Adding a wiki into the forum is not as simple as adding a new smiley.

I don't have an opinion one way, or the other, about adding a Wiki. But it sounds like to me you are the one not listening.
    And that's the bottom line.
