Who is Marc Garrett ?

My wife and I occasionally get messages from somebody who wants to make
a "connection" or be a "friend" on the Linkedin and facebook sites,
typically if I don't recognize the name, she will.

About 6 months ago, received a message from the above named person
to my yahoo email that he wanted to make a connection. Since neither
of us had heard of him, we ignored it.

Recently we've been getting spam to my Yahoo account (straight to the spam folder) from a person named Marc Garrett (marcgarrett hotmail.com)

The most recent one went something like this, and they're always worded
as if it's from a friend:

"there is something I wanted to fill you in on davex yahoo.com there is so much I want to talk to you about thank god I found this
hxxp://abc.yh8/XYZe you will fall in love with this immediately catch up with you later"

Is this a real person, or perhaps a bot disguised as a person ?

It makes sense - the interesting thing is, this is the first time I've
ever seen spam designed to look as if it's from a long lost friend or
colleague.
