Kingsoft Office on Windows 7, LibreOffice on Linux Mint, and Google Docs for online collaboration. Do store word documents on other online platforms though.

    Atlantis Word Processor.

it's the best small word processor i have tried so far.
i found it was the word processor who opened DOC and DOCX files the most faithfully while still being small and fast.

I have MS Office XP, 2010 and WordPerfect. I have to say Wordperfect is a welcome refresh... It feels much faster than MS Office 2010...

I use MS Office 2007 at work, which does the job - but there are occasional annoyances with MS Word which makes me think that something like WordPerfect may be better.

MS office is said to be going subscription only. Might as well get used to something new.
