I use filehippo to download my favorite software. What site do you use most to download your software?
I use ninite or an internal updater. Most programs on my computer check for updates when they run or have an internal updater.
I agree. CNET is not a reliable and safe place to download software. It's progressively getting worse.
Prefer the author's site, but I use Softpedia on occasion. I also use SourceForge, freshmeat.net (now freecode) and fileforum.
I check my FreewareFiles RSS feed daily. It gives me updates for most of my software, and has direct downloads. Also check using SUMo portable weekly, and manually on some weeks. Therefore, virtually all of my downloads come from the author's site.
I use filehippo and occasionally author's site......if download link from author's site takes me to cnet site...I cancel the download and go to filehippo.....
MajorGeeks mostly. I do use File Hippo's updater. Softpedia every once in a while as they always seem to have the most up to date versions. Sometimes Betanews. I try to avoid CNET when possible. The downloads are not always current versions and sometimes they try to slip in their "downloader".
I used to use filehippo quite often and their updater seemed ok too. I'm sure filehippo used to have sister sites, same format, just different domain names and maybe a different background color scheme on the sites. I can't remember their names now though.
I download directly from the source or author's site whenever possible. In the past, I have made use of MajorGeeks and FileHippo quite a bit also....
I used to like Majorgeeks a lot in the beginning, but nowadays I prefer to go to the author's site, also because there's usually a lot of info available about the software.
i use secunia psi as an automatic software updater, I normally try to download software only from the manufacturers or authors website if possible, i have used cnet in the past, but try to avoid it if possible.
I use both Filehippo and CNET, just avoid in installer. Never had a problem with CNET out of the 15 years I been using it.
I won't be downloading from Softpedia again. They ran tabloid type stories during and after the Connecticut children shootings. The stories were just an attempt to stir up controversy and take advantage of a tragedy. I was and am still disgusted with their policy to run the stories. Of course, they did not have the guts to post any message in response to their story.
