    Hi members,

i would like to ask the experts here which AV is better..AVG 7.1 pro or Avast 4.6 pro version?? Personaly i like the interface more from Avast. But if the experts here say AVG is better I will use that. Anyway...also I would like to know about the heuristics from these two AV's?? Is it any good?

I know...you probably advise me to use NOD32 or Kav.....but the thing is I can choose (from my company) a licenced version of the earlier AV's....So i have to make a pick between these 2.

    TIA.

    ParaD

:D Everywhere I look the consensus is AVAST by a wide margin. I just don't think that many people could be wrong.

    Thanks

Avast is better hands down, even the free version. You don't need the pro version to be better than AVG.

I am with the majority. Avast! is much better by light-years and antivir is an excellent choice as well.

Avast. AVG is a toy in comparison.

Just for addition. I've noticed AVG really is improving their detecion, I see lots of detections by Generic.Signatures the last couple of weeks. Especialy detections of Trojans and Backdoors. Interesting how they'll preform during the next AV-Comparatives.

Till then, avast! remains an excellent choise.

avast! isn't really hard to setup. the trick is to pick the blue, big rectangle skin (forgot its name  ) for easier configuration etc. since the default one is too compact, confusing and a winamp skin clone. that skin seems a lot easier for me and comes with the other two default skins supplied from the program by itself. anyway, after setting the skin, it should have a menu tab at the top left corner which u can click and choose settings. there you can configure lots of stuff like the on-demand scanner options, misc. options, chest options, everything basically. as for configuring the real-time protection, if you generally want to be fully protected, set it on high through the system tray icon or through the main menu of the program. if you want to customize it a bit, you can just view/edit each real-time protection "shield" configuration once again through the system tray icon menu after pressing the "View more Detail" button. hope that helps :p

but anyway back to the main topic...avast! for the win!!!

I've run both AVAST and AVG on my PIII laptop in the last month. AVG has FAR less impact on my system speed than AVAST. AVAST really slows internet surfing down on my laptop, while AVG seems to have no impact whatsoever.

If you have an older system AVG could be more better coz its more lighter.. but if you're using Pentium 4 Windows XP system then Avast work greats. Avast also has fast updates/upgrades, even if you are in a dial-up connections...its fast. Internet connection maybe a little bit slow when you starts-up to connect to net coz Avast is the first to make a connections for updates but after several seconds all is fine.

Aside from that Avast Anti-virus has lots of jaw dropping features not found on others that you can discover... one of them is its Boot-time scanning engine that lets you scans your boot-sector :)
