Avast! I like the way it talks. Its a very good AV. Had AVG but it would not clean or repair found viruses, it would just report the problem.

Why do you use a good AV and then use another as an on demand or back up?

Do you not have confidence in your primary AV?
I notice that Bit Defender free is a common back up. Is it because it is free or does it get along with other AV or what?

I once had Norton and AVG 7 for a short period. Both were active, and then one day I could not access my email through Mailwasher Pro. I uninstalled AVG and then all was well.
Subsequently I uninstalled Norton and am using Avast. I don't know how it would get along with AVG or other AV.

    Thanks,
    Jerry

I use a highly rated purchased AV plus free on-demand “back up” for basically the same reasons I have four browsers, a half dozen packet sniffers, multiple netstat apps, a bunch of cleanup utilities, notebook substitutes, etc. Not because I feel that one would not be sufficient, but because they are free and I enjoy using different ones - plus they all have their own strengths and weaknesses and can compliment each other. Also I’m an update and scanning freak, and use online scanners too, seven of them - man, it don’t get better than that!
