where is Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool

    Hi
    I know it can be downloaded separately BUT Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool is delivered with automatic updates. where can I find it in XP system. thanks

    I might be wrong (wouldn't be the first time, by a long shot ;) ), but my understanding is that the Tool is downloaded, auto-run, and then uninstalls itself pretty much all in one pass. So if you got it thru Win Update (or MS Update), you probably won't find it at all afterwards.

    That's the way I understood it......but I'd still grab it from M$, just to have it handy.

    you can also run the tool online here also

    You can run the tool manually by navigating to *:\WINDOWS\system32 and executing mrt.exe.

    or you can just run it from start/run or taskmanager/file/new task run/
    Enter: mrt.exe

    this is what I was looking4. didn't know its called mrt.exe

    That's good to know. And I just verified that you don't have to have automatic update for this site to install and run the MRT!
