after seeing them ignore many reported bugs from ess beta1 & beta2 that made it into a shocking "release candidate"... im not so confident

Confident of what? I expressed no degree of confidence, nor lack thereof. I'm just not in the business of pre-judging an outcome I (nor anyone else here) have no real knowledge of. Like I said, wait and see. Then see how constructive you can be when you do know.

They will not be releasing the RC1, they'll be releasing the final version which you haven't seen or used, so how can you possibly form an opinion?

    What about international versions?

Will it be possible to use RC1 until the release of the final version?

Try another computer or optimize it. upgrade ram memory or your processor. Try core 2 duo or pentium D. Next to norton is in my opinion an exageration.

Why blame ESS? Ever thought of your pc being not optimized? Try a clean install and you'll see what a wonderful world it can be. A lot of people forget, that after a long time using an OS + many registry cleaners, their pc won't work as it should.
    Just an idea!

download the beta from the link in this forum. Install and your Eset icon will be orange telling you this version expires in 3 days and to download the latest version from from where it shows the word here. It will take you to the latest versions.:thumb: ;)

Tried that, it takes you to the beta download page, and lists:
    ESET Smart Security RC1 (32-bit)
    http://download1.eset.com/special/essrc1/ess_nt32_ENU.msi

    ESET Smart Security RC1 (64-bit)
    http://download1.eset.com/special/essrc1/ess_nt64_ENU.msi

    ESET NOD32 Antivirus RC1 (32-bit)
    http://download1.eset.com/special/essrc1/ea_nt32_ENU.msi

    ESET NOD32 Antivirus RC1 (64-bit)
    http://download1.eset.com/special/essrc1/ea_nt64_ENU.msi

Which does not make any difference once installed. It is still RC1 and provides the message it will expire in 3 days.
(Edit - Restarted the Icon is green with no visible expiry date, but the Version still remains RC1)

I think it is an extension of the rc from the first to the sixth. I didnt say it was the final release. It was just weird that I downloaded it, turned orange then redirected me to the new download link. And oh yes, "Daddys home".:cautious:

Had nothing to do with a new release......with an orange icon, it turns green automatically after you restart.
Everybody is seeing ghosts now....links to new releases etc. the links indeed lead to still the rc1!

I have to say, even thought it is not the final version, RC1 does fail a lot of leaktests and its firewall looks quite rubbish ecxept for controlling non-stealth programs. Kill explorer and your through! It should also protect itself from the registry and other important registrys and processes.

I passed the leak test as "Stealth". It also advises me when exe's change (program updates) as well as outgoing contacts. Works for me!
