Whats Your ISP Speed?

  1. Some fourteen years ago, the cable company offered a combo (television, Internet and phone) contract. We started with 6 up, 1 down, now it is 60 down and 6 up (same contract). Via wireless I never get those theoretical speeds, although I could notice a lot of neighbours switching to fibre (download increasing from 41-44 to 54-55). Lazy reason for me not to switch to fibre: same ISP and technology as my family, less hassle when they have issues.

Right now I'm getting 6.60 Mbps down, and 0.57 Mbps up.

Not exceptionally fast, but fast enough to be be very usable, except for doing large uploads - too slow for that.

We pay for 8/1. And we get 8.5/0.8 usually. All I need today, same old ADSL we have had since the late 90's, only the speed has gone up from 512 to 8mbit :thumb: And we have used the same ISP all these years couldn't be more satisfied I must say :)

No need for the 100mbit or even 1000mbit that I can get via the fiber connection that they installed 2 years ago, it's also way too expensive at the moment.

God almighty, I can't imagine trying to load and use your average website these days on that connection.

I've got 20Mb myself on a cable line. I'm stuck with one of those "monopoly" situations where there is no competition. I doubt very highly my area will ever see fiber.

I have 12/1.5 and 15/1 at the moment, good enough for most things.
I can upgrade to 30/2 but I don't want to change my modem.
    I don't like ISP one-in-all-combo boxes.

That was a work. I just did a test at home.
    2.48 down and 0.69 up :(

It should be faster than that, but has been pretty slow for the last few months.

Mine is slower and I still can load websites just fine. A page full of images usually takes less than 30 seconds I think. YouTube is a little offensive though. Gotta wait for 5 to 10 minutes until I start to watch videos if I don't want to be stuck midway.

I feel so silly for not making the switch from DSL to cable way sooner. I think it was because I didn´t really needed the speed, plus I never had any problems on DSL. I´m paying for 60/6 Mbps and getting 60/4, not bad. :)

So how is it? I´m reading bad stuff about fiber. Personally I think it´s overhyped, cable is just as good, perhaps even better.

So far so good, no probs here with internet, tv, phonecalls etc. in a year time. I lilke the upload speed being the same as download speed. No problems with hardware either. I don't have cable experience.

Nice to hear, I´m guessing you´re not a Vodafone fiber customer, I´m hearing lots of bad things about them.

I always used to think that fiber was more advanced, with higher speeds than cable, but it´s not true at all. Also, another drawback is that everything needs to be connected to the fiber modem, you can´t just plug your tv into the wall, like with cable. :thumbd:

    No Vodafone customer.
The most I can get here with cable is 150/15 Mbit/s down/up, with my current fibre 500/500 Mbit/s down/up.
I plug my tv's into the "wall" as well using powerline :)

I could pay for more but this is plenty adequate for me.
