PowerShadow is shareware, but it's freeware. It says it's shareware, but it offers the serial number to register it in a Chinese language forum. No English language forums yet, as far as I know.

Be sure to copy and paste. For some reason, it's hard to get it to register otherwise.

I have no issue with Power Shadow 2.6 as-is AFAIK, however i wait anxiously for when they release a version where you can not only enter shadow mode without reboot, but exit it also without reboot.

Now that will become the time saver we look forward to.

Oh, okay, that one. I thought maybe you were referring to an even older version of ZA free. I have 4.5.594.000 on my HDD somewhere and I am using it on an old 266 MHz Dell that has only 64 MB of RAM (not my main computer). Actually, it's not called ZoneAlarm because it's the firewall that came with eTrust EZ Armor LE (version 2.0), but it appears to be exactly the same. I was previously using NetVeda Safety.Net, and now the computer seems more sluggish. No matter what it's called, ZA does not seem to be a particularly light firewall to me. I will probably switch to Kerio PF 2.1.5.

Kerio 2.15 IS a very good choice when it comes to these firewalls. In my experiences i've invested enormous wasted time in trying to go over so many choices that would perform what you expect from them and the same applies to anti-virus programs.

Whether it's the internal makeup of the microsoft core base itself that's at fault or some other time consuming agenda developed maybe for the vendors benefit, it really shouldn't be the way that it is, but nonetheless it's unfortunately what we have to contend with in order to find at least one of them that won't create conflict with our system's config.

Do you just use your real name and that password?

I couldn't get it to work in the registration tab.

I would bet it is ZoneAlarm 4.5.594.0 - It has been downhill from there IMO

I have had this on a number of peoples boxes for years, secure, light on resources,
and great for inexperienced users, just make sure to turn off the auto-update or they might go and update it on you ;)

Check my signature below........As an aside, i use the much famous KIS6 Suite with it's network firewall BUT, Kerio 2.15 free also works conflict-free along with it. Call it overkill, but it's as stable as a ton of lead.

    Avast! Antivirus
    Comodo Firewall
    WinPatrol
    A-Squared
    Windows Defender

[Most recommended products by me are on my signature :)]

I've got to say that I haven't tried out a lot of products, though. If I use them and can manage/like them, I'll keep it. Thats why I don't plan on uninstalling the main Applications. I only plan to add to it. Anyway, these free products can easily match any paid security suite out there if used optimally and together :) !! And that's why I'm staying free :).

I'm running Proxomitron on Linux with Wine; there's a useful guide to Wine here: http://frankscorner.org/

I tried Privoxy on Linux and it's okay, but you can't beat Proxo.

You can add Spyware Terminator to my choices of "free" security solutions. It offers some basic HIPS firewalling and resident shield plus what i drool over most is the Real-Time Shield Action List! plus allows to set a system restore point at the time of any removals which helps in case of error in judgement by either program or user. :thumb:

    SpywareBlaster & SpywareGuard,
    AVG Anti-Spyware (on-demand),
    Ad-Aware SE Personal (on-demand),
Windows Defender (real-time but wonder if it is any good)

    Rookit Unhooker (recently only)
Power Shadow 2.6 - This one I just started recently but I installed the version with ADS (not malware but their own ADS which might not be that good) ... d'oh!

    Folks,

If you are downloading Power Shadow make sure you download the version from Tucows which does Not contain ADS.
Check this thread out for download as advised by yankinNcrankin.

    Hope that helps.
