I like bitdefender 9 alot ,but i do not like seeing so many services running. There are 4 in services.msc--i am wondering do they need to run all the time or can i cancel them?I do not run the spam control.I also do not do auto updates--i do that manually.

1-bitdefender communicator-ensures proper communicaton between bitdefender componets

    2-bitdefender desktop update service

    3-bitdefender scan service

    4-bitdefender virus shield

It may be that all of these have to run all the time--but i would just like to know your thoughts.I like to get all the speed out of my computer i can--i have cancelled alot of microsoft services that i do not use that would run all the time.

I have used f-prot and dr.web before that has almost nothing running in the background.

    thanks guys

Sounds like all of them are pretty much necessary from the descriptions. The only one I'd even consider killing is the update service, but that's no good since the hourly updates are one of BD's selling points. I'd just leave 'em all alone. You might do better to go thru all the Windows services and set as many unnecessary ones to Manual as possible.

services like alg.exe , wdfmgr , but its hard now i dont know which services are on your computer so it's hard to tell.
I like also bitdefender and used before but they do not update every hour, i like them because the Hive is good, but i dont like the program because runing to many services and slowing down the pc little.
Someone maybe should contact them about this.

What I meant by that was that the updater checks for updates hourly.

I do hate this though---having problems starting a game i play while bitdefender is on.I even disabled the registry control and still same thing. If i can't fix this bitdefender will have to go.

I even disabled the virus shield --same thing--the .exe part of the game will not enable.I guess i will be going back to f-prot and ewido .I may just try avast 4.6 pro out.
