1)ShadowProtect Desktop, the guardian angel of my computers
2)Shadow Defender, arguably still the best light virtualizer
    3)Sandboxie.

I enjoy trying most of them but always come back to these:
    a.) Avast IS
    b.) ESET 5
    c.) MBAM Pro

And in honor of trjam, trying Panda 1.9 currently.

    Comodo Time Machine
    Malware Defender
    AppGuard
    Preventon AntiVirus
    PeerBlock
    Windows Firewall Control

Preventon started out being light weight at first of the year but in the last year has had about five program updates and now uses A-Squared for the Spyware protection. It's rather bloated now but still a decent AV. With UAC at highest, asking for credentials and SRP default deny with a few hash allowances, I'm probably done with the AntiVirus thing anyway but haven't had time to uninstall it. I feel as though AppGuard in Locked Down mode is plenty enough but still like the usefulness of Malware Defender.

"what programs served you good in 2011"

If this refers to security software, the same ones I've used year after year.
System Safety Monitor 2.0.8.583 or 2.4.0.622
    Kerio 2.1.5
    Proxomitron

They've been 100% effective for me at enforcing the default-deny security policy. Changing or "updating" would be pointless.

    ProcessGuard :p

    Prevx PSOL

    Zemana

    Avira v9 :p

    ZoneAlarm - Old version :p

Not for getting FF v3 :p with several good AddOns

This setup has NEVER failed me, even when i don't always have SD enabled :) You don't always need all the latest whiz bang stuff to serve you well ;)

Well considering the entire point is to elevate programs I never really "got" it lol why use LUA if you're just goin gto elevate on demand just as UAC does.

I "get" LUA, in that it prevents malware from doing too much damage. My thing though, is why let it do any damage? Prevent the suckers from running and you don't have to worry about it. LUA isn't good for experts nor for "happy clickers", imho. Experts will know better, and happy clickers are just going to cause damage, no matter how small. I've had more issues with programs acting screwy under LUA than I have had LUA protect me from anything.

More power to those that see a benefit, but I think it's rather pointless if you can prevent infections to begin with. And you're right, if you're just going to manually elevate stuff, just use a maxed out UAC.

Well, here's the last of several where he "forces" me (not really, just kidding, more like persuades me :) ) to remove it.

I think I referenced a similar link to you before, but maybe try this one:

    A very good read.

    *EDIT*

    sorry, some added...

Some nice explanations on the dangers of elevating from either a Vista Standard User account or Administrator User account. I believe the same applies to Windows 7 as well, but I’m not entirely sure yet.

Good to know. I was considering switching 2. and 3., but after your comment I think I can just leave things the way they are. The layered approach, without the layers.
