What on-demand only anti-virus back-up are you using?

Good answer. That *inconvenience* is one reason I ceased using BD's freebie.

I now use AntiVir-free for on-demand. Of course I had to disable its real-time scanner & notifier -- both of which are kept nicely quiet by a setting in my HIPS (SSM).

I'm using Antivir with guard disabled as a backup to my Panda 2007 IS. That way I'm putting together Antivir's high detection capability along with Panda's TruPrevent technology to protect against zero day attacks. Plus Panda's full scan is very fast. Overall memory usage for Panda Platinum 2007 around 81K for all processes.

But will it causes the update to fail?
I once tried to block its avnotify EXE, but the update got hung.
And I couldn't force it to shut down (not even by Windows Task Manager).
Since I can't close that app, I can't shut down my computer properly. It gets stuck. I need to do a hard switch-off.
I'm not sure if this is the cause.

By the way, once that program opens, it doesn't provide a way to close it within the program.
Look at the menu. The "close" option is not available. Weird! why?

Installed but how do I remove the icon from the tray and disable the notifier upon startup?

I don't want this to use any resources...

    block its avnotify EXE
block it from startup, either use msconfig or other tools which can monitor startup areas
