They are both two different programs under two different licenses and each are developing as they see fit. As for the programmers, I don't have any idea who went where. Some forked to form LibreOffice. I wouldn't think that every last one of the original programmers left to develop LibreOffice and I don't know if the programmers on one side are any better than the programmers on the other side.
Yep, and OpenOffice version 3 is a different program than OpenOffice version 2. Which one are you loyal to?
My point was that LibreOffice is nothing more than a different version of OpenOffice. I've already figured it out as I've stated above, it's clear you're loyal to the name. You can pretend you're loyal to the license agreement or whatever you want. Sorry you took offense, I just don't believe there are any particular grounds for loyalty to either OO or LO, unless one works better for you, and I don't think that was your argument.
On my new computer, MS Office Professional Plus 2013, thanking member "cruelsister" for her invaluable assistance. I use it almost daily, but only Word, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook. I also happily use similar free software on other computers but MS Office is the state of the art in this type of software.
After many years of use, I finally upgraded my Microsoft Office 2007 to the latest Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 edition. I also stopped using WordPerfect Office, because it became redundant. So, my current productivity setup is as follows: Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 = Windows Desktop (Main workstation) Kingsoft Office Suite FREE 2013 = Windows Laptop (Because I can't afford another copy of MS Office) Apple iWork = Macbook Pro (Laptop) Other = Zoho Docs Online (For accessing docs on the go)
LibreOffice but will switch to Kingsoft if they let free users save in Office 2007/10/13 formats and not just the paid users.
Removed Kingsoft suite from netbook. Can't save files in 2007/2010/2013 formats or open them. Using Office 2010 in laptop.
I'm fairly certain Kingsoft Office can open/save DOCX and open XSLX/PPTX. It appears to have better compatibility than LibreOffice, maybe your documents have proprietary content?
@J L Yeah Kingsoft support said the same thing. Still doesn't work. They asked for the files and said they would contact back when they finish analyzing. After almost a month. No reply. Just didn't make any sense. @roger m's explanation makes perfect sense.
The free version of Kingsoft DOES allow you to open .docx etc. formats, but you cannot save in them: http://www.ksosoft.com/product/compare.html
Yeah well that doesn't work for me. Support said they were analyzing my files in docx but still no reply from them. Maybe some problem with my computer or files. But not able to save in docx is still a no go for free version.
