I Googled and found out she does sing those good ol' standards. Amazing for someone so young to sing that type of mysic. I went to the link you provided but didn't see any place to click to listen to her music. Maybe I missed something?

Okay, I scrolled down and found it. I'm very impressed. Wow! I can't believe she's only just turned 15. I have an 80 year old brother-in-law who would love her I'm sure. He's a big band, jazz, old standards expert and has a fabulous collection of old records he's putting on CDs. He may already know about Renee.

Just about anything, depending on my mood at the time -- everything from bluegrass to opera to Santana (and their more "in-group" Afro-Cuban predecessors) to you-name-it. :)

Well, when I read "songs", I had a totally different answer. It looks like everyone answered to "music".

Gotta love any music! Classic Rock, Jazz, Blues, Big Band, Swing, Classical, Golden Oldies, Musicals, Gospel, Country(which is sounding alot like Rock, lately), Reggae, Celtic, EuroDance, gee, we have all expanded our horizons, ya think?

I don't like to make judgements, but, Rap? Hip-Hop, OK( ;) ) Music should consist of more than loud BASS and one beat, I always like to imagine what young people "into" Rap are going to be like when they grow up and have kids. Can you imagine? My parents sang "Hey There", "Moon River", "Can't Get Along Much, Anymore", "Unforgettable", I sang to my daughter, "Dude Walked Like A Lady", or "Baracudda", "Give Me That Old Time Rock-n-Roll". I can't even think of anymore right now, I played Sax, so heavy instrumentals are big with me, Chicago, Earth, Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, I really wanted to play with them and Big VooDoo Daddy, since the Big Bands are gone.

What are rappers going to be WANTING to "rap?" to their babies? Sorry, I hope they have some back up tunes, so they can say, "What? We never said that!" I better not hear you say that again, mister(young lady). Yep, TOTALLY different when you are the parent. Still seems comical to me. :D WHAT ARE they going to come up with? o_O

    Happy Tunes to You!!

    Gerardwil,

I agree Nadirah's track 12 is the best, tho, the green thing in the middle keeps beat best with track 16. No big deal, just something I noticed scrolling down the replies. I have some of them on my puter too? Is it Planetarium Bandstand? :D

And the "Dude LOOKED Like A Lady" too! So There!! :p

    Marja,

You're right. Most of us did think of music rather than songs. I think of songs as words put to music and I seem to listen mostly instrumental music with out words.

I agree totally with what you wrote about Rap and Hip Hop. There's no songs or music (tunes) there to sing to the next generation. It'll be interesting to see what kind of music the next generation will invent.

I like singers that have a good voice and can sing clearly and beautifully, not those who try to mask their poor vocal talent by shouting, mumbling, audio special effects, or fancy dancing (i.e. much of today's pop music). I like musicians that actually know how to play their instruments to produce melodies that excite the mind and move the body, not just random noise with a lot of bass. I have no specific band or music type loyalty, I take it on a song by song basis. If an artist I like makes a bad song, well then it's a bad song.
If I could pick only one type, I would say classic rock: early stones, beatles, righteous brothers, u2, police, Tina Turner, etc. Some from each of them. It's great for doing regular work. For mind numbingly monotonous work a little harder rock is required maybe Lenny Kravitz (one of the few shouting exceptions) and a few others.
I like some from each of these: Cranberries, Dixie Chicks, Dido, Sheryl Crow, and very select titles from today's crop of boring music heard on the radio.
To relax: Dido, Mozart, a little jazz, early Kitaro (Silk Road, etc.)
Music is a very personal preference, and whatever you like is cool with me.

@PW- Much thanks for adding Classical to the poll.

Songs? Linda Ronstadt is great. From days of yore: Peggy Lee, Rosemary Clooney, Buddy Clarke, the Ink Spots, Trio Los Panchos. Also, I loved the way Doris Day sang *before* she went into the movies & became a perpetual virgin. :D

I believe Joe Cocker had a song once called "She came in through the bathroom window" :D And wasn't he a plumber by trade?

I like to listen to oldies and love songs, especially songs by older people like Lobo. I have a wide variety of songs on different CDs which my father brought.

What I've been listening to lately:

Fountains of Wayne--Welcome Interstate Managers/Utopia Parkway
Ramones--Leave Home (Remastered) (probably my favorite group ever)
The Beatles--With the Beatles (one of my 4 year old daughter's favorites)
    Beach Boys--Sounds Of Summer

Also a big fan of Alison Krauss and Union Station, Jellyfish, the Kinks...ah, the list goes on...;)

Pop/rock (Madonna, Elton John, The Corrs, Michelle Branch, Avril Lavigne, Evan And Jaron, newer Hanson, Linda Ronstadt, No Doubt, New Pornographers, The Rembrandts, etc.)

Alternative/modern rock (Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alanis Morissette, Garbage, Stone Temple Pilots, PJ Harvey, Green Day, Bad Religion, Kay Hanley/Letters To Cleo, Liz Phair, R.E.M., etc.)

Other modern singer/songwriters (Sarah McLachlan, Abra Moore, Cindy Alexander, Maren Ord, Dido, Norah Jones, Leona Naess, Ron Sexsmith, David Gray, Neil Finn, etc.)

Alt-country (Wilco, Steve Earle, Kasey Chambers, Lucinda Williams, Kathleen Edwards, etc.)

Classical (Beetoven, Mozart, Wagner, Vivaldi, etc.)

But I also enjoy some metal (Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Lennon Murphy, System of a Down), modern R&B (Alicia Keys, the late Aaliyah, Usher, En Vogue, former TLC, Jill Scott, Musiq,) world music, some jazz, and more not listed here.
