To be honest, I normally use a RAW backup which doesn't need re-activation but, if the hardware is the same, then then it shouldn't be a problem.

Ah, the crucial issue I forgot, defragging. That's what messed it up. That's what I wonder if they've fixed.

Was the activation mechanism seeing the defragged drive as different hardware and so you ran out of allowed installs?

Exactly. From what Andrew told me, defragging moved something on the disk.

Um - activation that can't tell the diff between new hardware and a defraged drive - doesn't fill me with confidence.

Not being privvy to how the activation mechanism is actually implemented, I was merely speculating that something may be written to a particular position on the drive which gets moved with the external defragging. If it is not where it was expected to be found then I guess it treats it as a non-activated system.

Fortunately though, I'm not writing the code and I suspect that the developer has a better idea of what's going on.

    Hi Pete.
Thanks to you and the others for your advice.
I've ordered Shadow Protect for trial purpose.

Interesting addendum to the discussions on Eaz-Fix.
I downloaded a trial from them and never even got to the point where I could test it.
When I re-booted, it cycled to the E-F blue screen and the turned off my pc and then started it again.
    This just kept happening.
I tried to boot into safe mode but it still kept cycling.
Tried what little else I've learned and finally tried to do a XP repair.
    Nope.
Had to do a clean install and still had to fight for a moment with the partitions.
I may try it again sometime. But not until I have my imager working.
I am sure the problem is from something I did wrong but I haven't got a clue.

    Oh well.
At least it's been peaceful around here.
My wife has decided life might be more fun if she takes the silent approach.
She hasn't uttered a word all day.
I could get used to this.
    Best regards.

    Hugger,

Check the thread under 'Other anti-malware software"-FARSTONE DRIVECLONE 5 PRO.

Am testing now-this could well be the complete answer to your problems, installs without difficulty and combines an ISR,Imager and a Data Backup function all in one, all of good quality.

Wow you did have a bad day:argh:

If I mess up her pc again I might starve to death waiting for a decent meal.
So I think I'll see what the community thinks of it first.
    Thanks Hairy.
