No. If I changed my sig. now, it would show the change in all three places!

And you would say it was the same. :D

Lot of that going around these days, je.
Hey, how you liking that Macrium Reflect Pro? Used it long? Any complaints? I keep seeing good reviews from Wilders members.

From time to time I review the current "threat landscape" to see if anything has occured that would make me want to change my security setup.

("threat landscape" -- a security industry buzzword. I usually avoid buzzwords, but it's reappeared recently in the security media and sounds kinda cute!)

All of the hoopla about "Flame" caused me to review what was going on, and I concluded that it isn't a threat for myself.

So, I continue on Win XP SP3 with:

    --------------------------------------
    • Kerio Firewall
    • Opera Browser
    • Deep Freeze (reboot-to-restore)
    --------------------------------------

I include Deep Freeze (DF) because it's considered a security product; however, I use it more as a maintenance product (keeps the OS partition/registry pristine), since DF doesn't prevent unwanted stuff from downloading/installing. It just removes the stuff on next reboot.

    regards,

    -rich

For whatever reason, I have never paid very much attention to DF, and maybe I should have.
It's like SBIE, except it covers the entire OS, and a reboot is required, whereas SBIE just requires closing the sandboxed application.
It seems to me that DF could be outstanding, except for things like program signature updates and new email, or any Word doc changes that would all be lost on reboot.

Can DF be easily toggled off and on?
Is there a way to exclude items from deletion?

This is true, and is a valid criticism by home users of DF. However, I like that feature. It leaves nothing to chance.

Remember, that DF was designed specifically for organizations (the Enterprise version) where the user has no installation privileges and the systems are static (not a lot of changes made). Faronics doesn't have a "Home" version, but does include a "Standard" version without an Administrative Console.

As far as Word Doc changes, the home user is required to have at least two partitions, one of which is not frozen, so that changes to data will be retained.

I'm using an old version of DF, and I think that the newer Standard versions provide for signature updates. You need to check the Faronics Web Site for the features in the latest version.

For the Enterprise version, all updates/maintenance to individual workstations are done from the Administrator's console.

No. You have to indicate that the next reboot will put the partition in a Thawed state.

Not for anything written to a Frozen Partition. Normally, you save your work to a Thawed Partition, which is why a second partition is required for data use, while the Frozen Partition (usually C:\) contains the OS, the Registry, and user's programs.

For users who frequently make changes to their system, other programs are probably easier to use.
