Hi RTistic, Vista setup isn't done yet. I don't use my Vista image as I am always on XP and prefer it. Anyways, with both Sandboxie and Returnil enabled, an Antivirus would be additional protection and not really needed. My Vista image is however awaiting an Online Armor AV+ Vista compatible version.

dja2k, quite the thread you started here. It's nearly 2 & 1/2 years since it started. It's funny to see that the more things change, the more they stay the same! I was just showing my wife this thread from the beginning, and it's amazing to see the very many people, you included, that have remained faithful to their main security-apps. over the years...

The nerve of you 19monty64 for saying that. You know I have changed my set up over more times over the last 2 1/2 years than there are the number of people who have posted here. LOL. Seriously though. Take care old friend.

    Avast Home 4.8
    ThreatFire
    PC Tools Firewall

Yeah I'm using a firewall again.

Well keep us posted about ThreatFire.
All the threats of ThreatFire I've seen upto now, where all executable files.
I would like to see something else as a threat than an executable, because I've already a full whitelist protection against unauthorized executables (AE).

Yep that sure is correct! :thumb: I am amazed that this thread is still going strong even after all this time. I don't change my setup that often anymore like you noticed, my primary interest now is Tallemu's Online Armor. I am glad though that people still come and post in this thread; some of you have been posting since I started this thread back in 2005  .

I am a beginner but this is what I am using so far:

    Returnil, Sandboxie

threatfire, WinPatrol, Spyware Blaster, Superantispyware, XP antispyware, PrevX CSI, Spyware Blaster, XP antispyware, Safe XP

    Dr Web, Eset

ZoneAlarm free....(I have had problems with firewalls slowing me down and messing up all of my fun, so I switched to ZA. But I am thinking of going with Kaspersky's security suite)

    KeyScrambler

    Advanced Windows Care Pro

    R-Wipe, ATF Cleaner, Ccleaner, Sweepi,

    XB Pro

I am thinking of adding DefenseWall and First Defense ISR and Maybe ShadowProtect but I don't know how to use them yet. I am trying to take this one step at a time. But I can tell you that I absolutely love Returnil.

 That is quite a list there caspian! Are my eyes deceiving me, I see several antispyware apps (you actually typed Spyware Blaster & XP antispyware twice in the list) and two antivirus even though you are fully virtualized with Sandboxie and Retrunil. And you still want to add Defensewall.....?

If you go with KIS, I would just keep these:

Returnil, Sanboxie, Spyware Blaster, Superantispyware, Safe XP, KeyScrambler, Advanced Windows Care Pro, R-Wipe, ATF Cleaner, Ccleaner, Sweepi,

I wouldn't add Defensewall and well I know some people use FD-ISR with ShadowProtect which works well for them.

These are purely my suggestions and opinions.

    Hi CogitoErgoSum,

Out of curiosity, how do you harden your system by disabling UAC and Windows Defender?
