Well MRU Blaster is set it so is sort of in the LIVE category. Though not sure why if your using sandboxie

Biggest question is if you NEVER scan then you NEVER know Yes or No if you have or have had an infection. Which is okay if that's the way you want it as it's your box. But certainly possible for something to get through that, but you'd not know it since you say you don't scan.

IMO it's clear thar n8chavez DOES scan...why would he have that on-demand tools otherwhise?

    I think he's saying he's not scanning real-time...

BTW, also loving it over here, PC runs light as a feather!

Perhaps - he's been around - But he didn't list any real scanners so thought I'd mention it.

IMO if you're fully aware of consequences and what's going on then do what you want. - it's your system :D

But don't come crying if you lose data and the wife sticks you in the dog house because you no longer have all her pictures, and you thought you could do the no scanner, little protection too, but didn't really realize what was going on.

I see CureIt and AVP Tool, which are scanners.

But I'm not here to speak for other members setup...

Regarding to my setup, don't worry, I don't use real-time scanners and I'm enjoying way better protection that when I had one.:D
I do use on-demand every 2 weeks/1 month, but since I adopted this setup, never found anything.

No real-time scanner != little protection

(And I won't loose my data, thanks to an image kept in an external HDD and weekly backups with Karen's replicator)

I do run a scan every so often with some on demand scanners; namely AVP Tool, CureIT, and ewido micro. So I will be aware of it if I get infected.

I guess a lot depends on how you have things set up. I prefer tools that take other appoaches, other than scanning via signature, because they can often be behind the curve and are too dependent on things I have no control over, such as updates.

In my opinion, malware scanner represent and 'old school' way of looking at things. I'm not sure scanners are the right approach to be safe today; anti-malware scanners don't seems to be keeping up with constantly more complex and ever-evolving threats.

A properly configured Sandboxie, EQS and a tight rulest along with a tight firewall rulset is better than most everything else because you are in control of everything that happens of your system.

However, just to be safe, I semi-frequently make and restore from ATI images.

Extremely secure yet light as a feather.

I find Returnil really useful when I want to run an Eset Online scan. Turn on protection run the online scan, find nothing, reboot and back to normal with no trace.

Others may say that Reurnil is not a security application but I wouldn't trade it ( or deepfreeze, or shadow defender) for any realtime protection that I have ever tried.

I agree. It has really become very stable. Looks like the leader for sure in this area.

The only reason I would not recommend Returnil, as opposed to some other imaging software like ATI, is that if a user were to have their harddrives wiped out imagin would help whereas Returno; would be useless. The user could create a bootable disc with an image and keep it seperate from the machine and be okay in all types of emergencies.

I don't see recommending just one - they are both a good idea. Acronis or Shadow Protect to make system and data images with Returnil, deepfreeze, of shadow defense to restore the system following (a) contamination or (b) user error.
    (a) has never happened to me (b) happens all the time.

Where you pointing to IMO is the very basic that need to explore first,if he got that right then adding anything to the system is basically a matter of routine and confidence. The other way around is basically a road of pain and complain ! :D
