Had to drop SuRun as nice as it was because it's an unfinished program and creates some confusion leading to screen freezes on the Control Panel Applet after applying or changing settings leaving one to force to have to reboot the PC.

It even has an "experimental" setting in one of it's configuration Tab and because it's german leaves a lot of needed info out a universal english needs to know in order to understand it properly.

Back to Admin again with full contingent of security protctions to make up any differences, besides Comodo D+ can run apps ISOLATED or Limited Rights itself.

I hope one day they finally sort SuRun out becaue it did show some promise while testing it but was a big pain to deal with.

My current setup is about to change. I've been reading here about various products and trying them out. I'm keen to stick with free products only and a fairly trimmed down "suite" so I'm going for:
    • XPS2 partitioned (with a free partitioner from "The Ultimate Boot CD") into "system" and "data" partitions.
    • Returnil
    • AVG
    • (Possibly Treatfire - not sure yet)
    • Online Armor
    • Sandboxie
    • Firefox (with Adblock Plus and Noscripts)
    • DriveImage XML - to take an image of the system partition
    • Karen's Replicator - to back up the data partition

    Hi Scoobs,

I had a conflict between Online-Armor, Sandboxie and Threatfire. I had to drop Threatfire in the end. That was some time ago so things may have changed.

Thanks Hammerman. I've been running Sandboxie and Online Armor for a while now without any problems.

I have read that Threatfire and Online Armor overlap somewhat, and conflicts are something I am very keen to avoid (after my own personal Outpost/KAV nightmare) so I think I'll make like you and trim my "suite" down a bit.

    Minimal approach with Windows Vista:

Vista firewall + UAC + Windows Defender (can't get rid of it!)

    DeepFreeze (still trial)

    Firefox (NoScript)

    ShadowProtect for emergencies

It would be nice to have AntiExecutable for Vista when it's available.

In this setup there isn't really any specific anti malware application, except for Windows defaults.

Update to my minimal approach for Vista:

Vista firewall + UAC + Windows Defender + Windows SteadyState v 2.5 beta (trial)

    Firefox (NoScript)

    ShadowProtect for emergencies.

As it is, this setup has only ShadowProtect as paying ware, the rest is free.

    NEW CHANGE

No need to excuse SuRun after all. I found the older version 1.0.2.9 works to perfection compared to the other later releases. I still see evidence that newer never always equates to better, and a lot of different configs respond better sometimes with one certain version and that continues to prove itself again and again.

EQS (4.0) (Alcyon's RuleSets) + Comodo D+ with SuRun, SandboxIE, and Returnil RVS.

    More to come naturally......................

    Comodo 3 w/Defence +
    Avira 8 Premium without Webguard
    SUPERantispyware Free
    Panda Anti-Rootkit Free
    Firefox 2 w/Ad Block Plus

I've recently ditched AVG A/S, Spyware Blaster and Defender as Comodo + Avira really seems to be good enough.

Regarding Buffer Overflow, I added this to my security :
    1. Turn on DEP for all programs and services is MARKED
    2. BOOT.INI contains /NoExecute=OptOut (see remark)
    3. CPU Hardware DEP = YES
    4. Comodo Memory Firewall v2.0.4.20 is installed and runs for all applications.

    Remark :
NoExecute=AlwaysOn, although the best setting, was too strict.
    I couldn't run 3 applications anymore :
    - IZArc
    - R-Wipe & Clean
    - PerfectDisk
