Why do you need sandboxing in Linux? Pure friendly curiosity... :)

In all honesty it's just because it's part of SeLinux. I though I would give it a try and it doesn't hurt to be more secure. I will probably stop using it though once Firefox 8 gets pushed down fedora's repos. For some reason its not available in the repos yet. I have it on my mac already but my Fedora 16 doesn't see it.

If I were using Linux I would definitely sandbox where possible. Exploits definitely still exist and sandboxing an exploit means they need a further exploit to get around it.

i got 800$ worth of credit card fraud a few days ago, which was re-embursed by the bank.

i don't know if the leak happened online or in the real world but i decided to tightnen up my securities, both online and in the physical world.

a few changes i'm gonna make:

    - pay with my debit card in the real world instead of my credit card as much as possible.
    - open a Paypal account for online transaction.
    - switch to Puppy Linux boot cd for transactions.
it's a bloody pain but getting your money stolen ain't no fun either.

Do you really want to tighten up your physical world security in what concerns your bank account?

Have no online transactions; have no debit/credit cards. The only way for someone to steal from you, would be either to kidnap you or directly attack the bank. :D

Puppy is excellent, but you might like the latest Parted Magic better:

It has a nice collection of disk and system tools as well as FF browser, and I find it boots noticeably faster than Puppy, If you want to get Flash to work follow the instructions here:

    @ moontan...
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. What a PITA.
I'm surprised, though, to hear that the bank won't tell you if it was online or real world.
Also, I've read that the instances of real world credit card theft far exceeds that which happens online. When you hand that waiter your credit card to pay for your meal, and then he disappears out of sight, all bets are off. It's not hard for me to imagine online actually being safer than real world.

i don't think the banks divulge the results of their investigations.
but it might be a good idea to ask.

    tnx Page.

Yea if that was practical to have No credit card or debit card but its not in the real world.

How is systems's boot time with KIS 2012 compared to Eset SS?

(tell me from your personal experience, I'm not interested in labs tests)

the bank refunded me the money but still, that's a lot of times wasted.

i agree this was probably done in the real world but that's a good times to re-evaluate possible lapses.
there's no way for sure to tell where the breakdown occured.

some easy things i can do:

    - use Paypal as much as possible.
    - avoid using my credit card in the real and virtual world as much as possible.
    - the bank i use has a email alert system that can alert you for any transactions you wish.

i am really not looking forward to boot into Linux every time i want to do a transaction.
i mean, why not use that Linux to check my email while am it?
    it is safer, no? ;)
    and where does it stop?
bloody security, i tell you. ;)

maybe i should pause on that Linux idea for awhile...

Dont let it consume you,you can only do so much period. I've read that sensitive info gets leaked like social security numbers just a week ago.
You could pile on the security like many here preach, but thats not gonna stop it,no matter what people on here believe.

Best bet, check your bank balance daily,if you see anything wrong, thats the time to act.

If you really want security I'd suggest you move away from online transactions and do everything in person.

There's no "cure" but if you're doing it face to face with a teller or even an ATM it eliminates a lot of variables.

All it takes is a teller to memorize your atm card,or credit card number.

Not with an ATM, I highly disagree.
