What is your security setup these days?

Changed my setup yesterday. I had Vipre Premium since the discount offer.

I kept having NIC problems, i think it is since i installed Vipre.

So removed Vipre and went with:

Windows 7 firewall
Avast Free
PrevX SOL
LUA

I will see if my NIC is still going down afer a few hours.

 

I'm done building my security setup.

Basically this. The only software I want is DefenseWall or Sandboxie for 64bit but they both cost money.

Giving EMET 2.1 a shot along with my regular arsenal of Chrome, Avast and MBAM. Here's to hoping my system doesn't punish me for breaking my vow to keep things simple

 

Just a tip, you may want to put EMET on "Opt Out" for DEP. I've found that DEP has broken a few programs for people including Steam and the Java 6 updater.

I then force other known "good" programs to use DEP anyways so it all evens out IMO.

 

So far so good with max settings, but I'll keep that in mind in case anything does suddenly get weird, thank you As far as Java updates, I read beforehand to expect that to happen. I'll either update manually or let Secunia PSI handle it. My setup may change again...yes, I know, lol. I'm not particularly happy with how Chrome extensions (namely AdBlock and Ghostery) can't work fully with the limitations. I'm tempted to go back to FF, toss a few addons in (minus Noscript, never again dealing with that), and, maybe calling it a day...for now I feel like I'm becoming another TRJam (no insult meant, just a lighthearted humor)

 

For Chrome I would suggest a host file. I keep one on my router and have not noticed any slowdown whatsoever.

Firefox 8 will possibly tempt me to switch back. It looks like it'll be quite good. However that's a long way away and Chrome may improve drastically by then.

 

What Hostfile are you currently using? I know it can be great for ads, but possibly a PITA to deal with should you find a need to allow ads for a website such as we talked about in my Chrome thread. Would it allow me to get rid of Ghostery too? Beyond the somewhat frequent crashes, Chrome is finally behaving, and my only complaint is limited functions of addons (ghostery lets a lot of trackers through, though I understand it isn't their fault).

It can be. However, it's easy to modify the host file. And if a site is broken you can report it. Collegehumor.com was broken, I reported it, it was fixed.

I use the MVPS.

It should make Ghostery unnecessary if I recall how it works correctly.
