Going to make a Dr.Web CureIt LiveCD and add a few new programs to my monthly scanners.

    edit: These

    VBA32 Anti Rootkit
    Kernel Detective
    AVZ Antiviral

though on a 64bit system are rootkit scanners even necessary?

I don't think any of those fully supports Windows 64-bit. Sophos Anti-Rookit, SanityCheck, and TDSSKiller does, but they're unnecessary.

Yes I sorta figured they were probably unnecessary on 64bit.

Well, I haven't offically checked on any stats, but I can tell you that I don't feel any slowdown. It feels light. That's really all that matters to me.

Moved to Secunia for my updates. Looks to be a much more comprehensive list than filehippo.

Also trying BitDefender Traffic Light for Chrome. I personally don't have much use for it but I think this type of extension can be incredibly useful for others and I'd like to try it out before recommending it.

Thanks to J L for your response back in June. Sorry if I've missed anyone else who commented, but I've skipped about 30 pages of the forum for the time being.

Been away as my laptop died. Nothing to do with malware, it was just the good old dropped it on the tiled floor problem. So I decided to see what the outside world looks like, had a break from the screen for a while, and went on holiday with just my phone. :)

Going back to the Bufferzone safe site thing - it just seemed to be advised to surf https sites such as banking sites outside of the Bufferzone. Seems strange advice to me, and it's advice that I'd ignore. Don't suppose it would be advised without reason, but I personally can't think of a reason as to why I'd follow this advice. Did see this on a reputable channel - either BZ's site/forum or here at Wilders, but I don't have a link to it.

Anyways, this be my current set up at the moment...

    COMODO FW with D+
Prevx SOL (with KeyScrambler until Prevx SOL covers more recent browsers)
RSS Pro 2011 with Virus Guard and Virtual Mode enabled
    erm, that's it.

Also use TrueCrypt for important stuff, KeePass for the most secure passwords I can get away with on a site, and a VPN for when I'm surfing at a WIFI point that isn't my own.

On demand toys that I ever use are HitMan Pro and MBAM, but there's about 50 others that I have here and there to use if I wanted or needed to.

To be honest, if I get something that somehow manages to get through the virtualisation then I'll just reinstall my system from an image.

While I like to try out products and believe layered security is the best approach, I do think there's a point (especially on my laptop with 2GB RAM) where I'm just going way over the top. I may be proved wrong, but I reckon this should do me for now. Fingers crossed...

:thumb: I've been using Secunia for almost 2 years, very useful for keeping programs up-to-date and more secure.

    The simplification continues.

Added: Secunia PSI, Chrome 13 Beta, Norton DNS

    Kept: MBAM Real-time, Avast Free

    Removed: Panda Cloud Free, Sandboxie.

I'm still behind a router, no software firewall, Win 7 Home Premium 64, no services tweaked. We'll see how it goes.

    Why'd you remove Sandboxie?

Well, I'm trying to move away from restrictive things like whitelisting, virtual environments and all (tad bit difficult to call Sandboxie "restrictive", unless you count having to add things to start/run and internet sections). I really never even used it for anything other than my browser and movies I downloaded. I've moved away from Noscript as well. You know, I'm just not getting infected, even on "dodgy" websites. Actually, the only activity I ever see anymore is MBAM telling me it blocked a malicious IP on a website (most likely an ad server).

Does that mean I'm cocky and think I can't be touched? Absolutely not. But I just stopped being afraid of what was around the corner. I'd rather be careful about what I do and enjoy everything I want to enjoy, rather than have other programs do the job my brain should be doing. I think the worst threat on the net are 0 days, and, though they get talked about a lot, I have seen nothing to provide ample evidence that they are as prevalent as they are made out to be.

I went way off course with my answer to you, lol, but it boils down to just trying to rely less on programs and more on me.

Haha, larger response than I've expected. I just meant that most people love sandboxie, I personally would love to use it, and I was curious as to why you felt it wasn't suiting you. Your response definitely covered my question =p thanks.
