Just remove BitDefender safego and CounterSpy, they don't add anything in my eyes. And without them, it will feel like a new setup :D.

    @trjam
I agree about avast!, I would have liked it more if they would have finished version 5.1 before releasing version 6. With finishing 5.1 I mean that they should have finished the Behavior Shield (make it actually improve detection), they could have called that 5.2 or something.
They have been at version 4 for a lot of years, and now they are suddenly rushing. Atleast that is how it feels to me, I don't consider any of the new features as finished.
Even avast! admits those new features actually don't improve protection for now, because when I posted this on the avast! thread they said: "It is kind of unfair, just wait two months." Which in my eyes is a strange message, I interpret it in the following way: "You are indeed right, the new features actually don't improve detection at this moment, and they won't for the following two months. However we market it as improvements now, instead of in about two months, but you are not allowed to say anything about that."

I hope avast! keeps heading the direction they always went, by making slow continious improvements, which I like more than releasing alot of new major version numbers (version 5.0 to 5.1, and 5.1 to version 6; or even worse: yearly versions) that are more of a marketing trick than actual revolutions.
The same applies to other vendors, this is why I love ESET and Avira.

    Just my two cents.

None at all, kjdemuth. Browsers start much quicker in Buferzone than SandboxIE (for me, at least). Always had a delay with SandboxIE, which was never a real problem, but no slowdowns at all with Bufferzone. Chrome and IE start without any delay whatsoever, just as if opening them normally. It's a very nice bit of software so far. Can't see myself going back to SandboxIE at the moment, which I never thought would happen.

Now, your comments and trjam's have me a little ticked (at myself). I threw some money their way without really researching as I "thought" avast had a good rep.

Considering AIS 6 has been buggy and unstable for me since purchase a few days back, I guess I tend to believe those comments. I'd like to see where avast has admitted to the program not being "up to snuff", though. I'd like to reference that when I put in my (likely) refund request. That's simply not acceptable.

Also, any other links that are talking about avast's failings (like trjam mentioned)?

I would have trialled first, but I wasn't sure how long that 55% discount was going to last.

    Thanks :)

Out of the "Bombshell: avast! 6.0 Available!!!" thread, first page:
To avoid confusion, it is just my personal opinion, and my personal interpretation of vlk's post.
To avoid confusion, avast! is a great program which offers really great protection for free. And avast! has a good reputation. But like I stated before, I feel like they should have finished version 5.1 first.

    Thanks for that :)

I'll do a little more research before I throw in the towel, but I've already lost confidence in the product these past days and, whether that's justified or not, that's all that really matters at the end of the day.

    My try...

Actually running in W7 Professional 64 bits:

    - CIS 5.3 (Defence + and AV enabled)
    - MBAM free on demand
    - DrWeb Cure It on demand
    - SAS portable on demand

Not sure if Geswall or Defence Wall could improve my system....

    Suggestions?

i would expect you computer to seize up and cough up hairballs, with your Comodo HIPS active. ;)

    edit:
i see you're on 64 bits. Geswall or Defensewall are 32 bits only for the moment.
Geswall is supposed to release a 64 bits version soon.

I am running Comodo Internet Security full package with Prevx SafeOnline and getting along very well. I have licenses to two other security suites I purchased that won't do this well.

    no, it's not good. ;)

here's a thread on what people use on 64 bits:
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=290501

personally, i would recommend Sandboxie Free or Pro.

    I believe in minimalism. :)

Realtime - Windows firewall, firefox with NS and Request Policy.

On demand but seldom used - SAS, MBAM, HMP and Gmer

    Please tell me:
    1) Avast! 6 Free is good?
    2) Malware Defender + Winpatrol Plus + Windows (XP SP3) Firewall = Firewall (free version) instead of?
    3) Avast 6 Free + Malware Defender + Winpatrol Plus + Windows (XP SP3) Firewall is good (provides sufficient protection)?
    4) Which free firewall is compatible with Avast! 6?
    Yours sincerely

In my opinion there are great deals currently running. You can download eg the N360 free for 90 days:

    http://buy-static.norton.com/prod/html/partner/msft_EN.html

I think you would be interesting to test it further, if looking for something lighter, the link that you have spent the NAV 2011 free for 90 days.

Can he only uses it in real time, and some hardening in Windows.

After that it's just having a good backup configuration and ready, nothing more is needed.

    Just my opinion.

Removed AIS 6 from my system.

I'm giving NIS 2011 a shot. First impression? Bleh...It appears to be light and running well, but the UI is (beyond) horrible.

I have a feeling I'll be going back to simplicity: MSE and Windows firewall along with the on-demand programs in my sig.

Now...time to see how difficult Avast is to deal with over there 30 day money back guarantee.

Give ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus a try, I assure you, you will love it!

I was a long time user of ESET, but left them a year or two back for reasons no one but me would care about ;)

And...NIS is now off my system and I'm back to MSE. I may add Prevx/safe online as a backup.
