I removed Panda Cloud Antivirus Pro from my setup, for several reason. First, I really want more options, to finetune the program. Second, I really would like to have more visibility on what is going on exactly. Also, the GUI is really ugly in my eyes, despite being very simple (which I normally like, for example F-Secure) I don't like it, it ain't really high quality, it is amateurish. Further, the full scan is extremely slow, this has to be some kind of bug, since it takes 5 times as long as for example ESET, giving the option to exclude archives won't fix that. I might check back at later versions.

    • Linksys WRT54G2 router
    • Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64; using an Administrator account
      • Windows Firewall is enabled
      • Windows Defender is disabled
      • UAC at default level
      • DEP and SEHOP enabled for all processes
      • Internet Explorer 9 Beta with default settings
    • avast! Free Antivirus

I really have no problem with its interface, I think it's exactly how I like, simple and minimal. Regarding the delay in checking files, the first time is slower, then it becomes acceptable. I will not be easy to change antivirus.

    Dropped Shadow defender.
    Added Time Freeze 2.
Supposedly it has a enhanced MBR protection.
I also like the option of shutting off the protection and saving the changes.
It also is still being developed, unlike shadowdefender.

It's been over 5 months or so running:

    Main PC:
    VIPRE Antivirus Premium
    Malwarebytes' Anti-malware Pro (Real-Time On)
    No Autorun
    SpywareBlaster

    Secondary PC's:
    VIPRE Antivirus Premium
    No Autorun
    SpywareBlaster

    On-Demand:
    Hitman Pro

    Network:
    Linksys WRT160N w/SPI firewall
ClearCloud DNS (set at router level)

So far running smooth and trouble-free. No need for over-lapped setups.

    @ExtremeGamerBR
No, since by now using the free version of Sandboxie.
I´ve seen clearCloudDNS, but after some reading here on Wilders i decided to go for NortonDNS.

    @shadek
i can assure that is ligh and it seems pretty solid to me also:D
I was trying for a long time to set a strong setup without resident AV, that doesn´t sacricife much usability, and that would be easy to keep (set-and-forget).
This is the much close i could get.

    kjdemuth,
what are your impressions about Time Freeze compared with Shadow Defender? Does Time Freeze allows to set permanent exclusions (folders, files...)?:thumb:

    AlexC,
Timefreeze 2 has its differences. It doesn't allow exculsions. You can turn off the protection without a reboot. I really like that option. Of course you can't commit only one file, you have to accept all changes to the system. You can also use the USB restriction option. It has a restict folder option. It either restricts access to the folder or changing the folder. It says that it has a MBR protection. I haven't tested that though. I like shadow defender because I know that it protects against TDSS and rootkits. I also like it because you can commit a folder or file. Since I usually just download and only want to commit one file, it works for me. I do like the restricted folder and USB protection though. I think that if you add blue ridge MBR protection, you should be all set for MBR protection.

Changed again a couple of days ago. So far everything is smooth with the exception of Outpost getting too much CPU time when utorrent is on.

Do not need anything beyond the Hitman Pro on demand.

    My panda is PT-BR.

I'm thinking of trying out winpatrol plus. Is it a worthwhile addition? Any feedback appreciated.

Depends on what you use it for. If you're just using it for security probably not. Bluepoint is pretty good default/deny. You might add a on demand scanner. Just in case you want to check a file or two. Sandboxie or bufferpro might be good too. Kinda round out your protection. I've slowly come to realize that a light virtualization or sandbox should be part of your security.
