It's pretty good, and doesn't cause any slowdowns.
It blacklists some IPs, Domains, Cookies, Plugins, Popups, etc for Firefox and Internet Explorer. Also adds malicious sites to your HOSTS file, meaning that no program can access them.

TeaTimer isn't necessary when I have a far superior Defense+.

Ikarus running without any issue along my other security, the frequency of the updates are between 3 to 10 a day, i tested it against virus, trojans and some malware, all was blocked and clean.

the scan of all computer is very fast, 8 minutes for me.

if during download for example zip archive is corrupted, it popup quickly.

Also Ikarus protect during windows startup.

    Give a try!

    I haven't changed a thing!
Nothing worth mentioning anyway. Not for some time.

I used to think the same, but not anymore.
I just read somewhere (Panda?) that 9 out of 10 Windows users use a real-time AV. Couldn't tell you what percentage of that statistic are using up-to-date programs and definitions, but..
Anyway, for argument's sake (I'm too lazy to go through my History and find the source), we'll call it 3 out of 5. I'm sure the SurfRight gents (and all of the other vendors) would agree with that.
3 out of 5 Windows users? On a scale of what, hundreds of millions? At least, right?
So hundreds of millions of Windows users are all going to suddenly wake up and start sandboxing or imaging or something?
And all these AV companies are just going to stand around, eagerly awaiting their impending irrelevance?

I know terms like "zero-day" are enough to keep the paranoid up at night. And all the studies, scary stats, articles, etc. published about AVs 'only detecting an average of 4%' of these nightmarish new threats, but I assure you that blacklisting (and all the newer technologies that most real-time AVs provide nowadays) will be around well after Windows 8 in 2012.
A lot longer should MS opt not to include (in every version) a default-deny feature (or whatever), enabled by default, as a key piece of their first party security strategy in their next OS. And even if they did, the safe bet is a lot of people would still use a RT AV.
Even right now, almost 2011, on an internet security forum as intelligent and knowledgeable as Wilders, the majority of the (Windows) members still use a real-time AV, right?
The latest entry from this anti-virus rants blog is worth a quick read IMO.

i do not think either that real time AV's day are outnumbered because lots of people feel comfortable using them.

and it's true that most AV these days are more than just blacklist applications.

but there are the few of us that like going off the beaten path in search of something new.
personally, i quit using a real time AV a few months ago and i have no intention of going back.

like a wise man used to say: "Different strokes for different folks" ;)

    Couldn't agree more.
I'm just saying that the brave, WSF-type is greatly outnumbered by the "inside the box"/"comfort zone"-type and I really don't see that changing much anytime soon.

I agree with what you said in your last two posts. Just to clarify, I don't think AV companies are going under, or that people are going to stop using AVs, or that the AVs of a few years ago are going to be like what they are becoming in order to stay in the fight. It's just that for real-time, there are other methods that may be more reliable, such as virtualization and system image.

My own goal is finding the right combination of layers with minimal impact on how my computer works. So for now I am moving the AV protection to on-demand instead of real-time. And I am using the freed-up computer processing to try other methods, such as Online Armor and WinPatrol (Sandboxie is a given). I am looking for better combinations, and I may even go back to NOD32. This has become something of a hobby for me, so these experiments are part of the fun.

Just a quick point, or calling attention to the obvious, as I like to say...
Wilders itself is already "off the beaten path".
Our devotion to computer security classifies us as elite, by many user's standards.
So when you speak of going "off the beaten path" here at Wilders, you are indeed an extremely long way from the well-trodden path! ;)
