Thanks, jmonge, I'll look into PE Guard and Keyscrambler, too. Wish I could use DefenseWall, but it is 32 bit only.

Okay, this is probably too much.

Installed WinPatrol Plus. Turned on Malwarebytes real-time protection.

Surprisingly, no conflicts or slow-down so far.

    Cheers atomomega!

I feel like I am getting close to that balance of secure and light. But I am also beginning to think that it's just an ideal, always to be sought.

hehe... yeap, specially if you hang here @ wilders... don't misunderstand my words. what i'm trying to say is that most of us (wilders members) have the feeling that, since there's theorically no way to attain a protection of 100%, a small piece of malware could sneak through our robust setups and kill us. so i'm convinced that basically it comes down to a point where if you have the knowledge about all the vectors malware can come from, and you practice safe computing, and even if your bulletproof setup fails to even detect an attack... then you were just a sitting duck in the wrong place at the wrong time... what could you do? perhaps you were fated to get hit...
    just thinking...

You must have already used trial version. That is why it is saying that trial is over.

Yeah, remove Threatfire. You have an excellent behavior blocker in Emsisoft Anti-Malware called Mamutu already. :)

Back to ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4.2 (together with Hitman Pro 3.5 on Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) now my Norton Internet Security 2011 trial ended.
NIS2011 was great (except for adding quite some boot time) in every single way, but it is just too expensive here in the Netherlands.
After the NIS2011 trial I also tried the new Microsoft Security Essentials beta (which is really quite good; main concerns: quite heavy and really slow scan speed) and the latest Panda Cloud Antivirus again (really great freebie; main concerns: still the bad quarantine/delete/recycle bin behavior, slow icon loading in Start Menu etc. [fix those and Panda has the best freebie without any doubt]), and some others, but there just ain't a program out there which can beat ESET's speed.

I'm still with NOD32 4.2, PREVX 3.0 (without SO), Defensewall Personal Firewall 3.07, UAC at max and the WIN7 firewall enabled. Works great except that opening tabs in Google Chrome lags sometimes due to Defensewall (no such thing with its HIPS part disabled).
Been thinking of trying NAV 2011 in the place of NOD32 with tis combo. Do you know if there will be any conflicts or other issues, in case someone has used these together?

Turned off MBAM real-time protection, back it goes to on-demand.

Added Prevx. Does anyone know the best settings for Prevx so it only scans new activity?

I just don't see what's the point of having 2 FW running at the same time...

Well, Defensewall is not exactly the traditional firewall with packet filtering, port monitoring...

    copy this :-*
or you could lower program age heuristics by one or two notch.

Thank you Konata Izumi, I used those settings, and dropped the age heuristics 2 notches.

Put ESET NOD32 back on. If this combination doesn't conflict or slow things down, it's what I'll use for a while.
