Mixing it up a bit - rare for me

Did not keep Kaspersky. A bit to rich for my blood for what I got also with a few others still out there to try I am still reading and learning mainly from you fine folks as well as testing them. I wish KAV was cheaper since I really never had any issues that I can think of other than long scan times or more importantly the sluggish rootkit scan (can you not disable that in 2010?, ouch).

Prior to finding this forum I stuck with one AV and never knew that they faltered on occasion. I always believed that if KAV (for instance) was good in 2000 it had to be better in 2010, right? So, I am happier now testing other AV myself and getting educated as I go, along with reading others test results here on WSF.

I am currently giving Microsoft Security Essentials a go in hopes of decent results. So far, things are pretty good but I have no idea on its efficacy since I am usually pretty safe in my online travels and its still very early. I also use Online Armor, MBAM and SAS on demand as well as LUA.

I tried ESET and that was a no go. (Failed to read firewall configuration error) I tried everything on the knowledge base and even tried support which got me one reply asking for more info which I supplied that day only to never hear from them again. :(

Thanks to all here :thumb: ..

If you turn on "Scan only new and changed files" the full scans go much faster :D

Also, you can install one of pipkin's skins for kaspersky and there's an option to remove "scan hidden startup objects" for the rootkit scan.

Unfortunately the scan still runs, but it doesn't actually scan anything and takes under a second to complete, you can then change the skin back to the default kaspersky skin and the setting still remains.
