What is your security setup these days?

Thanks for the screenshot, Kees! The only thing that bugs me about the current (non-beta) version is the high I/O activity, which I believe is probably responsible for the high - and continuously climbing - page fault count, as well as somewhat high CPU count. I've mentioned before but I see nothing yet that comes even close to SandBoxies impressively low resource usage, although I'm not necessarily suggesting this is a showstopper for me purchasing a DW license. I like so much of what I see in the product and I've always like its developer, Ilya. Can you comment on the beta's resourcce usage, or perhaps it's still too much of a private matter seeing it's still beta? This latter possibility I respect a great deal. Thanks!

Well iI have not measured it head to head, but it feels like it. 4MB data read in two hours, with an old hardisk capable of reading/writing 57 MB/sec average, do the math. See pic. With simple Task manager I can't really check CPU usage, but it does not spike CPU usage, I do not care for memory usage. Also CPU can not be measured reliable with windows task manager.

Only virtualisation programs which have an option to use the memory for the sandbox (like Returnil) would be leaner I guess.

In my case beta DWPF v3 resource usage is almost the same (maybe a little bit lower than v2.56) as DW v2.56

Because sandboxie intrcepts all changes to the real system and writes it in a sandbox, by design Sandboxie generates a multiple of disk I/O as DefenseWall.

The way the interceptions and handles are implemented by a security program, make XP's task manager an unreliable measurement tool.

Your personel feel of snappyness of the system is a good indication. Real usage benchmarks tell the truth (like start up of a browser, downloading, copying a large amount of data, the response of Outlook when you create, move, send, delete a number of e-mails, frame rates/Ping differences when playing a game).

    regards Kees

Sorry, just caught your replies now, Kees. Thank you as well for the info :) I use Process explorer for measuring usage. These technical reasons you state are a bit over my head o_O

Yes, this for me is a also a good benchmark indication.

Not significantly slower, and probably nothing that would bother me too much. It's just that I am a little concerned about DW's high I/O reads and/or writes and high and constantly climbing page faults. This leads me to believe there are potential stabiltity issues with the product. However, I know there are lots of people happily and successfuly using it, so I will most certaily revisit the product again and put it through its paces. Believe it or not and without trying to look like a hero, there is at least 50% reason for me purchasing the license for supporting a lone but dedicated and talented developer. The other reason is I like the product.

    BTW, for my current setup:

    1. LUA/SRP/SuRun

    2. Sandboxie

    3. Router

    4. Acronis 2009

I had same experience. Be interested to see what the V3 is like, though.
