Yes...it uses A2 and Ikarus engines but only scans when something starts to execute. There is no constant scanning like most AV's.

Before switching to OA++, I used OA Premium for quite a while. It's nice to have good HIPS functionality without it constantly popping up an alert.

SpeedTouch 780WL / Vista Firewall / Windows Defender / Avira Premium / Spywareblaster / Spybot (Immunize only) / Acronis True Image.

    And for a second opinion:

    Malwarebytes AntiMalware
    SuperAntiSpyware
    A-Squared

I setup an VM with only XP SP3 inside and started to install different kinds of apps so i could see their memory consumption:

    Comodo Free: 45 mb
    Online Armor Free: 53 mb
    Online Armor Premium: 73 mb
    Outpost: 52 mb
    Kerio: 70 mb
    Zone Alarm Pro: 46 mb

Something is bugging me though with OA premium. The way i did the tests is booted Windows (VM-wise), let it settle down see the memory consumption.
Install the firewall, reboot , let it settle down.. do the math.. get the results.. post on Wilders.. ;)

But the first time i did the test i didn't let the PC settle down so i was getting 101mb of initial consumption. So i calculated like that. After though i did i was getting 89mb. So i recalculated.
BUT.... OA premium looks a bit high to me. Must check again. Either way, this is a really good firewall, is lightweigh, good HIPS.. and this is the one i;m using basically... would recommend definitively.

I do believe you. My OA currently is not running more than 20mb. But this number is through the processes tab in the taskbar. My calculations were done through the performance tab in TaskManager. I suppose the way i tested each application, shows the total amount of "strain" needed by XP to load the Firewall or any kind of application. OA might use for example 20mb of RAM to run but XP needs another "XX" to load it and keep it running (at boot time). Hope im correct to what i'm stating. I dont think that XP will be releasing away the memory it just used to load the app. I wild guess is that if i do the test again and use a memory defrag app most probably memory consumption will drop to 20mb both in the Process & Performace tab. Again i'm not sure. I like to measure things and try to find out how much impact they have to the whole system. Not only as a standalone app. Either way OA is a killer firewall..

If by any reason i'm correct to the way i measured the resources needed for applications here are some more.:

    ATI 09: 21
    AppGuard: 16
    Avira: 73
    Comodo Free: 45
    Drive Sentry: 48
GDATA AV: 178 (good god ;)
    Malware Defender: 11
    OA free: 53
OA++: 73 (im currently using it)
    PC tools AV: 96
    RegRun Suite Platinum: 13
    Sandboxie: 13
    Outpost: 52
    Kerio: 70
    Zone Alarm Pro: 46

All apps where tested on VMware Xp Pro SP3, clean install

Initial RAM consumption with system left to idle for 5 mins was approx 89 mb.
Then install the app, rebooted, left the system idle for another 5 mins, did the math and thats it basically.

*** All numbers are calculated as:
XP with application installed - XP with no application installed = Memory straino_O??

jmonge, well I hope so, Malware Defender is tough to get a hold of. Thanks to you and LoneWolf I decided to give it a go. The only bad part is that I had to open my wallet:thumb: . So far no regrets.
