Siggy where did you find the Common Sense app? I like free stuff and wouldnt mind trying that out and maybe Online Armor.. question about that tho is it actually free for as long as you plan on using it or is it free for a trial period ??

Guys for real here, Commmon Sense 2.1 is not a program :argh: :argh:

But,I will say this, you guys rely on way too much security software, and not rely on your free common sense!

Common sense is maybe free, but definitely rare ;)

Note: any of these is already more than enough!

    Hi mort.
Yes, some of it is free.
    DefenseWall is paid only.
MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware Are paid or free. Realtime is paid but for on-demand only it is free.
    SpywareBlaster is free.
    Wot and CookieWall are free.
WinPatrol has a free and paid version. Paid is lifetime.
As far as AV's, two of the better free ones are Avira and Avast.

Definitely get one of the AV's on your system
They are both very good with high detection rates. :)

kees I'm just wondering why you have so many on demand apps for scanning startup.
Say you check task manager occasionally , see something odd , and then run a startup scanner , maybe google the name of the process.

Would that not be enough ?
What would running another scanner do , even if the first found nothing ?

    I'm probably missing something :)

    Heres what im currently using:

Avast Pro 4.8 ( Think i might try Avira because Avast takes forever to do a thorough scan)
Outpost Firewall Pro ( tempted to try OnlineArmor )
    Malware Defender
    Winpatrol +
    CCleaner
    Firefox with AdblockPlus & WOT

Anyone have any recommendations for me ?? OnlineArmor is a firewall you have to pay for correct? And someone mentioned MD can be configured to make it virtually bulletproof... Please tell me how to do this lol i just installed it haha

Well you are right, but I only have DefenseWall (plus Winpatrol Plus for active X, BHO, etc), and when you set a program to trusted state it just can install (that is the way DW works).

So I like to see what is installed by other family members:
    XP Box
    heuristics check (Panda),
    check with own blacklist (OSAM),
same plus check when in doubt info from virustotal (RegRun) and
an advanced forensic check (Hitman Pro)

The vista box just has 'standard' security. so I like to check what is installed from time to time.
    Vista64 box
Anvir to find newbies, Autoruns to deal with it manually.

    Regards Kees

Do an advanced search here in Wilders with "Malware Defender" in "search title only" You will find a lot of good recommendations for settings in MD.

    Update ***

    Malware Defender
    Winpatrol
    CCleaner
Firefox with WOT & Adblock +

Question about firefox for some reason for some sites i visit it seems that firefox gets extremely laggy... I check mem usage and it jumps from 50k to 150k which is kind of strange i guess? I believe my computer is clean for the most part. I will add a firewall and antivirus soon.

P:S Im on a laptop and ive noticed this in the past but never said anything so i thought i would say it now. When i click things on my desktop or anywhere really most of the time i have to click on it like 2 or 3 times for it to actually open.... or for another example if i want to close something i have to click the x 2 or 3 times just to close it... sigh. Dunno why this is. Very annoying! Anyone have any suggestions for this?

As far as I know to click 2 times in rapid succession to open anything is the default protocol, and sometimes a third click is required maybe because it didn't work properly the first time.

To close anything one doesn't need more than one click. On Vista you can go to Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/ mouse/ change button settings, and see what your default set up is like. You can also try using another mouse and see if it has the same behaviour.

Your laptop problably has a mouse pad, or a tiny rubber sticking through your keyboard (I do not the English word for it, but I guess it is not called 'nippel mouse'). In case your are using this, you can still have a look at the mouse option in your configuration screen, and have a look at the slider of the double click speed.

Also check your Window logs, for same errors to occur frequently

Hey JM, still the old version 4.8. I'm just warming-up with anticipation for the new version. :)

I'll go back to sandboxing at some stage, but right now, with the limited sites I visit, the odd download, system is too fast with just the browser (Opera) and avast.

Might add prevx again later this week with avast. See how they run together.
