    Removed a-Squared Free.

I found it uses a service even in idle, without opening the application itself.

Just Eset Smart Security, a trial. (Windows XP Home Edtion, IE 7 with higher than default security settings)

I made a few advanced tweaks (not default setings).

It seems to be VERY light. Booting up this 5 year old computer just takes a few seconds, fast browsing.

I can't really say how good it is in terms of protection, since I almost never get infected :D

    Now testing:

    Sunbelt Personal Firewall
    ZoneAlarm Free
    DefenseWall (trial)
    PrevX

    ..on separate Sandboxes  :thumb:

I'm leaning towards buying a license for DW and PrevX. Is it worth it?
    Do they offer lifetime licenses?

Both are very good. I am using Prevx 3 and Malware Defender. Defensewall is $29.95 for first year, then $10.95 after (if you want program updates, otherwise you can still use with no further updates). Prevx is $29.95 for first year, then it is $26.95 yearly thereafter (10% discount for renewal).

    That's too bad.

'Til then, I'll be waiting for them to offer lifetime licenses. Or maybe not :D

DefenseWall is lifetime, to continue having access to newer versions as they are released one must prolongate one's licence. If you do not decide to extend your license DefenseWall will still protect you, that won't change.

True, but for $10.95 US, to prolongate my licence another year, I believe is money well spent. :thumb:

Probably worth the cost though. DW appears to be in active development with excellent support.

Just dropping in to see if anyone can comment on my setup. I'm probably between and intermediate and novice at this, so any suggestions are welcomed.

    My system right now has

    KIS 9.0
    Firefox with Ad-Block,No Script
    linksys Router
    Trusteer Rapport

    Manual scans of

    SUPERanti Spyware
    Malwarebytes
    Dr.Cureit
    CCleaner
    TuneUp Utilities

I was thinking of getting the Defensewall HIPS and maybe antilogger, but don't know if these would be redundant and/or helpful.

Again, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would either stay with KIS in real time or relegate your AV to an on-demand scanner and then try/use DefenseWall. IMO, stay as you are until KIS comes up for renewal and then make a choice.

Thanks guys. Will get DefenseWall tonight. My renewal for Kaspersky isn't until November, so I got awhile to think about that.

Appreciate the opinions, so many programs it's hard to know which is the best mix for me. It really helps to be able to come to a forum where posters know what they are talking about. :thumb:

    *Online Armor ... HIPS deactivated
    Sandboxie
    *Defensewall

Defensewall and Sandboxie appear to be working fine together for me. I wondered if they would conflict. The only noticeable slow down is the Sandbox deletion. Other than that ... no probs.

    * = newly added

One more question, if I install both Defensewall and Previx, would that be OK? Would they conflict or be redundant?

Again, sorry for the basic question but all these programs are new to me.

Thanks, Lonewolf. I think that's the way to go for me and see how it works.

Sadly the newest version of TF has been causing serious troubles for lots of people, incl. me, so I'd to uninstall it for now. Instead of its tech. which was there to reduce FPs and only target malicious files during an infection moving forward, it was like going in reverse. Last time the software froze and I'd to do a system restore to get my OS working again - I'm glad I enabled System Restore afterwards on this customized installation. It's proven a savior, where I otherwise probably would have to reformat and lose some important Save-files from games and other things.

LoneWolf do you still use Rollback Rx?
I read few threads here on Wilders about rollback software and in one of them i saw your posts where you mentioned that you are using (if i am not wrong) Rollback Rx. What happened?
I ask because i have been thinking about adding RB/EF to my config.
    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Hey Creer,
I was using and was very happy with Rollback Rx as it saved me more times then I can count untill it was detected and removed because of a FP. Posted about it here.............
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1454480&postcount=3774

Right now it's not on my pc as I have Image for Windows.
Maybe I'll put it back on sometime in the future.
