To me the primary purpose is to restore to a different snapshot.
New gui's, a couple new features. I really don't care.
I like trying new software and playing around with different settings.
If I screw up up or don't like the software I just want it to restore to the previous snapshot.
    This it does very well.
Has not let me down yet. :D

    Real-time:

Avira AntiVir Premium without WebGuard - heuristics set to medium for real-time, high for the scanner.

    Prevx 3.0 (beta)

    ThreatFire

    Secunia PSI

Software FW? None. Hardware FW setup correctly. If malware really wants to bypass your outbound protection - it eventually will somehow. I save myself the hassle and resource usage of a software FW, plus that I keep my browsing speed at its absolute peak.

    On-Demand:

    SpywareBlaster

    Browser: Opera

    Back to basics:

    Defense Wall
    Windows Vista Firewall
    A2 Anti-Malware (On-Demand only)
Shadow Protect in case something slips by

If feels like I got a new PC without all the resident software.

Undecided at the moment if I need Online Armor in addition.

AVG does have a high I/O at boot up afterwards is a fine (about 30 times more than Avast and about 40 times more than Avira when I set them to check at writes only) AVG can not be set to check at writes only, so on D drive now checks at read plus writes.

    Idea behind this setup
    1. GeSWall as simple firewall and containment for internet facing aps with Chrome extra contained with GW virtualisation option to REDIRECT.
    2. Drive Sentry only protects C drive plus registry, this is a precaution for social engineered installs (setting it to trusted with GW)
    3. AVG Free checks downloaded files on D:\Data partition (can not be saved on C:\Programs partition due to GW restrictions), this is a precaution to prevent spreading malware to others by forwarding downloaded stuff. It also filters out known badguys at download.

    Uninstalled Rising IS 2009.

Instead, I installed Rising FW and Rising PC Doctor.
    Also installed AntiVir 9.

    At the moment (old setup):

    Resident
    CIS
    BOClean
    Avira free
    TF
    SBIE

    OnDemand
    MBAM
    SAS
    A2

    Other
    Acronis TI
    CCCleaner
    and some other stuff...

I plan trying GesWall and give just another chance to Drive Sentry (because of its registry protection), any ideas on this?

    Regards

There have been reports of Sandboxie and Geswall not running well together and given a choice between these two, particularly on Vista, I would stick with Sandboxie. Similarly, I would stick with Threatfire compared to Drive Sentry.

If your present setup has protected you and is light on performance maybe it would be a good idea to stick with it ;)

But I would have thought that just running CIS and Sandboxie in real-time, with Avira set as an on-demand scanner would be more than sufficient and would lighten your load.
