Ahh, needed to try the DefenseWall pre 2.52 release. Yes it fixes the CPU spikes and disk access to near zero (only unsolved tickle access with 2-4 KB/s, so with a disk access bandwith of 57MB/s not noticeable on performance)

DefenseWall (out of the box, since all my custom resource protection rules are standard now)

    Malware Defender
    - running with locked user interface in training mode (thus silent :)
    - network protection enabled
    - application protection enabled for kernel, phisical memory, direct disk access, low level registry access, low level keyboard access and time/rights elevation (all others ignore, only very rare intrusions are blocked for silent protection)
    - registry protection ask autostart, system, network settings plus Chrome is not allowed to change any registry key
    - file protection (my own system file protection, plus program group startup for all and chrome only allowed to write to D:\Downloads)

Avira beta 9, configured as future freeware (so only AV + AS), with chec at writes only, heuristics high and smart file extensions check

Key scrambler free for IE (IE as on-line banking and shopping browser).

    Comodo Memory FireWall free

    Sound, safe and silent

According to this it does not include antispyware or web scanner.

well i dont know of any recent tests with the newest version of DS, but in my own testing and usage, its been flawless, protected against most of what i threw at it (im not a professional mind u) protected me from any drive-by downloads ive come accross, if u configure it properly it can be both quiet and extremely effective. only thing i dont liek is its too quite LOL, and it adds a little more time on startup, but once the system is up and running, its very light and fast.

give it a try, hopefully u like it as i do :D

Avira AntiVir 9 improves usability, security

Avira's AntiVir continues to grow in popularity, and the latest major release--a Download.com exclusive--shows why this free security program is at the top of the charts. A brilliantly customizable one-click threat killer, baked-in anti-spyware and anti-adware to compliment the antivirus engine, the ability to scan "locked" files, a rebuilt heuristics engine, and infection protections for its own source files are what's new and notable in AntiVir 9.

    Get Avira AntiVir 9: http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10322935.html
The built-in spyware and adware detection have been available previously only to premium AntiVir users, so it's no small potatoes that they've been given to free edition users. The one-click threat removal has nifty quarantining feature that logs and sets aside all detected threats so you can deal with them individually or as a group at the end of the scan. It's simple, but means that you can run a scan at night and not worry about the scan pausing and waiting for user input before it continues.

Please open the file properties. There must be an additional tab called Digital Signatures that shows an Emsi Software certificate of origin.

If there is no such tab, this mamutu.exe file is not from us.

Despite all the flack Symantec have had recently I've gone back to NIS 2009. I previously removed it as I've moved to x64 and SONAR, for example, didn't work. But the new 16.5 version has full x64 compatibility and it's now downloading from their website even though there seems to be some delay in current 16.2 users getting it through live update. All is good!
