i am trialing Prevx Edge

 

this PrevxEdge is freaking cool,very quiet,the way i like security softwares
it is fast and ligth and most important thing is that it likes DefenseWall

i have in my wife laptop:AppRanger on medium security level 3 programs sandbox(browser,msn messenger and wmplayer)also blocking all known spy-sites and adware-sitesalso Windows Defender with spy-net enable(hips) and last but not least Windows Firewall and MY laptop i have malware defender,defensewall,prevxedge,d.e.p on all programs

 

I saw someone here got backup software for DOS.Is it necessary or.... ? I have only Acronis backup in secure zone(f11 - in the boot of PC).Is it enough ?

This is my complete security:

Resident: KIS 8 - Recommended security level(with very good setup in aplication control)

On demand: Malwarebytes,Opera browsing without Javascript and iFrames ,also firefox with noscript and adblock plus(with 4 subscriptions- lists).Essential BACKUP image with Acronis true image 11.

Removed mvps hosts because i can't see some sites that are not malicious directly.

kav is very good at protecting your machine but if you add an extra layer you we will feel more secure doble layer is always better and i heard good things about acronis from members here in the forum so i guez is more than enough plus dont forget the windows cd recovery in case a disaster happen

Acronis is fine. A good program. I have Image for DOS because I find it simple to use, and there's no install.

 

I know.
But it's the danger that comes with IE6 that makes me want to use it all the more.
Just to test if my anti-malware setup can live up to its hype
I always have Drive Snapshot ready if anything goes wrong

 

I still use ie6, in fact ie5 on a Win2000 snap-shot.

IE6 on which OS. And sorry for my ignorance, what is the latest version you can use on Win 2K.

I just suggested that upgrading to a more modern browser will give you allot more options and advantages, most of the time...

 

I just started using Windows Defender. Are you saying that joining SpyNet is what makes this program a HIPS? What about running the real-time protection without SpyNet? Not a HIPS then? Thanks

 

I still use ie6 myself.
Don't like ie7.
Just my preference.
Problem free with ie6.

 

XP and Server2003.

I don't worry about my browser running with reduced rights, SRP and then of course the browser can be configured through internet options - ie in Server automatically starts off in a protection mode and both OSes can be tied down nicely. Nor do I worry about which browser is more 'secure' I use what I like best and which works better for me, which is Fx or ie on Windows. Using a sandbox, shadow, isr or virtual machine as an insurance that can rollback the system while saving data to a usb is practically all I use not to mention backing up although I do like the idea of an anti-executable.

agree 100% i always use iexplorer and never use firefox but i make sure the browser is sandbox all the time and block drive-by with appguard,appranger and defensewall

There are two active antiviruses in your setup: Norton Antivirus (part of Norton Internet Security I suppose) and the antivirus engine of Spy Sweeper. In general it is not recommended to run several antiviruses at the same time. The same appiies to software-firewalls (Webroot and NIS).

 

IE 6 is way more cusomizable then IE7,8,9, or 10 ever will be. Tack on IEMate, enlarge and add spinning throbbers of all sorts, add a bmp file to the window menu bar and a little security tightening and theres nothing to fear.

I have to admit though that recently i've fallen for all the add ons available in FF.

IE6 does not support the latest web-technologies and -standards. That makes it a bit more complicated to design webpages. I look forward for the day when IE6 (and eventually IE7) leaves this planet.
