What is your security setup these days?

MAMUTU is an extra-exceptional off-shoot of A2Squared AS as a fierce Behavioral Blocker that is on a hair-trigger where concerns potential unauthorized entry into your system, akin nearly to a full blown HIPS but with very little user interaction except to manually formulate rules as they present themselves. Plenty of very useful data is included when anything is alerted on.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions on my security setup. Partially as a result, I ditched Zone Alarm in favor of PC Tools, added Threatfire 4, keyscrambler, and sandoxie. I also double checked my router setup to make sure I had the MAC filter activated for one machine as well as WPA encryption.

While I may still be a junior monk, my Kung Fu is getting stronger. :D

I like to echo those same thanks to everyone, some fellow members and others even those i will never know but who always stepped up with either some comparison with their reply & recommendation which some times was highly supported while even at other times not yet quite accpatable enough, but gave their honest experiences anyway in an effort to help us app more better apply the right security program at the right time.

I used to throw up my nose up at apps like ProcessGuard, FD-ISR, MAMUTU and a few others in favor of trusting in my own moments, but they never gave up accenting on the positives of various apps that eventually i came around to, and never been more grateful for their efforts.

You can have all of each of the best PC defense artillary that the world has ever before known but you can still go down to defeat (even in a small way)unless you listen, try, then act on the right combinations that others have found best and share with everyone.

Something tells me you probably know more kung fu than you realize. :)

Btw, I looked into Malware Defender and Defense Wall but decided against spending more money until some of my current subscriptions expire.

As a newbie here, would anyone care to comment on my set-up? I wanted it as secure as possible, yet as 'quiet' and user-friendly as possible. Yes, I know it's probably overkill :) , but all play very happily together, with no noticeable slowdown, on 2GB Vista using ReadyBoost, Mz Cpu Accelerator & CleanMem.

Firewall: Router + Sunbelt Personal Firewall (in and out only)
Buffer Overflow Guard: Comodo Memory Firewall
    Anti-Virus: Avira Antivir Personal
Anti-Malware: BOClean (SAS & MBAM on demand)
    Behaviour Blocker: ThreatFire
    File Guard: System Protect
Task Manager & light HIPS: WinPatrol
Web Protection: Opera (includes Haute Secure anti-malware), OpenDNS, HostsMan (with hpHosts and MVPS file), Scandoo, Sandboxie (on demand)
On demand system security checks: Secunia Personal Software Inspector, Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer

Thanks. I did read that ThreatFire only protected against some buffer overflow attacks, so I added Comodo Memory Firewall since it takes up little resources.

Opera incorporates Haute Secure anti-malware into the actual browser now - I didn't add it myself.

I shouls have added that I was looking for a totally free 'roll-your-own' suite.

It's primarily a behavior blocker. Very sensitive and gives loads of infomation. I'm quite impressed with it...

Thanks. Forgot to add that I also use Vista's UAC with Norton's User Access Control - makes life much easier.:D

Can I ask if anyone has used, or would like to evaluate, the Cerberus Security Guard - a program for tweaking security settings centrally?

Malware business is nearing total bankrupty :D

And from the looks of things lately, so is their cracking commercial products.

The hammer is coming down fast on them!

I can take a small combination including Avira, PG 3.5, EQS, along with ScriptTrap and MAMUTU and throw on the brakes of over 97% deliberate and in-the-wild malware and sail along with ease. Even though i only use SandboxIE as On-Demand as well as Returnil RVS Pro.

MBAM & SAS are the verifiers of a consistent clean slate and just in event of any ER dispatch, DriveSnapshot (.SNA)stands at the ready to return everything again back to square #1.

    Malware is finished!

i can tell you that if you properly configure a hips program(eqsecure or malware defender)and add a good firewall(comodo or online armor)you dont need any antivirus or antispyware in your pc,

    !00% Absolutely Right.

However, these HIPS makers need to build into their apps any untouchable ways to disrrupt or close them. Thats the other 3%.
