All anti-spyware, except P-Patrol, will catch something different many times. P-P happens to be software I've subscribed to, but don't run its active protection. I'm a nut on security, having had to reformat many times, and I will not take any chances software wise. I've plenty of ram, processor, a potent m-board and space.

    Thnx anyway.

Cool! No one can really tell you what you can and can't run on your system, so good luck there. If you ever change your mind though, a good HIPS program like Online Armor can help out and you wouldn't have to run all that active. Also Kaspersky with its extended database can help out more. I hardly ever get any spyware on my system and you can check out post #310 to see my setup, it doesn't use a lot of resources and I am pretty safe.

Well, after reading through the many pages of this thread I see I am a minimalist when it comes to security applications as opposed to many of you, at the moment I am only using the Windows XP SP2 Firewall and KAV 5.0.527 with IE6 as my primary browser. Although I have tried and experimented with many different security applications over the years I find this basic setup works well for me, FW+AV, from time to time I come across a minor annoyance while surfing which is easily solved and corrected, sometimes I may have to download a program to help with detection and removal. But for the most part, I have really scaled down my use of 3rd party software and it seems to have greatly enhanced my own computing experience.

In the future, I plan on upgrading to KISS 6.0, I feel top of the line suites are the wave of the future and will eliminate the conflicts and problems associated with multiple 3rd party security applications running in real time. But my hat is off to all of you guru's out there who make it happen on your systems. I'm blown away by some of the security setups some of you have running on your boxes, impressive to say the least. Good luck.

mouseclick: If you just used an alternate browser, such as Firefox or Opera, along with an ad-blocker and a non-Microsoft email client, you'd probably be pretty well set. It would probably save you the step of having to download additional programs for detection and removal (not good that you ever have to). Not to mention that many just like the software better ;)

Notok, on very rare occasion I have had to download adaware or SS&D, IE6 is locked down, and I don't surf the web like I use to, my use of email is minimal also, I guess the internet thrill is gone for me, although I have tried other browsers, I prefer IE. Have a great day! and happy computing.

Hi Mouseclick, I also prefer minimalistic approach, so I use only IE and Firewall. But I would like to ask, how do you monitor Windows Firewall? I wanted to use it, but I do not like the idea, that I even do not know, if WF is running or not, since there is no icon in systray. My friend sent me on program, which monitors WF, but that program takes more RAM than WF itsef, so I abandon that idea, although WF is a great choise for blocking inbound and in fact it is a free.

for a light AV, i would choose nod32 or f-prot. and for a firewall, i would go with looknstop (if u want app filtering), or ghostwall or chx-i (both are just packet filtering).

NOD32 is most likely the lightest AV you can get, it takes about 20 MB RAM.
Outpost Firewall Pro takes about 2-10 MB RAM (with logging and AS disabled).
If you use an alternative browser (like FF or O), you do not need additional protection.

    Less is more?

    I am leaning heavily on my combination of three on realtime;

    -Outpost FW
    -Defensewall Sandbox HIPS
    -Free Antivir7

Installed free CCleaner and it deleted 0.5 Gig and the PC still works fine.

    Next week i buy a D-link router.

    Best Regards

Actually KAV 2006 is lighter than Nod32 in Ram usage. Futhermore, adding KIS 2006 to replace Outpost (not really comparing pertection of Outpost vs Anti-hacker) will give even less Ram usage. For the time being, I thought that built 299 for both KIS and KAV 2006 were pretty stable. You can always remove the proactive modules and all others that aren't needed in both KAV and KIS 2006.

    Hi everybody,

New on this forum, I have, as Rivalen, the feeling that less is more ;)

I used to have only Viguard Pro (still on my family computer) with Jetico. It is a brilliant product. But I am very curious and impressed by this "new" alertless approach taken by progs like BZ, Defensewall and similar products.

That is true WSFuser, Nod32 on a P3 is better.

Don't know about all that running active on a P3 750 mhz computer, but is it all running smoothly?
