jmonge I'm sure you know how to handle dangerous software, but just so you know this thread says removal can be difficult: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=255134
I thought post #2 by the co-owner of MajorGeeks was amusingly harsh, but he later said he was having a bad day and apologized.

  2. So why add another anti-executable to the mix (No Virus Thanks Exe Radar Pro), do you have a Blue Screen Of Dead wish ?

Well, glad I could help you arrive at that decision, justenough, although my intentions were quite the opposite... I was commending you for your decision to run MBAM full-time.

    Darn it.

    Can you say your system?

I been trying everything but on windows 8.0 with Comodo 5.12 it only shows a blank screen at boot up
Windows boots up fine but there's simply no screen, it's all just blank. Task Manager shows the processes there and with that side door i can even browse folders just fine but my desktop stays blank. o_O

I was really counting on this.

The only way everything works perfect together is by entering shadow mode with SD then installing Comodo onto that. It's a perfect security screen like that but i prefer Comodo installed and working integrated to the actual system.

It is very nice. A good amount of configuring if you really want to fine tune it and go into specifics, and run your VPN(s) though it. Yet simple enough if you're just looking for some stateful/deep packet inspection for a wired network. Allows you some AV without having the overhead, attack surface or conflict on your box.

I got mine used in like new condition for a very good bargain. They're expensive new.

Could not agree more. I'm still using 5.10 for this reason (among others), and have no desire to change anytime soon unless they have a major overhaul, which I doubt.

They had a nice light, intuitive well laid out version (not to mention powerful), then went ahead trying to reinvent the wheel and add too much fluff to it... making it a Swiss Army Knife solution. You should stick to what you're good at, and do it better than anyone. I didn't even like it when they added an AV, let alone this sandboxing/kiosk stuff, and much more.

I'd like them to at least make some "Lite" version with just the FW & D+ for people that like it for those features. I'd even pay a nominal fee for it, like $19.99

Yeah, guess I'm just contrary.;) In fact I uninstalled MBAM for a while, and will use the portable Hitman Pro and Emsisoft Emergency Kit for on-demand scans until Malwarebytes comes out with the new version they are working on. The goal is to have as little installed software as possible and still be secure.

190% with both of you regarding Comodo FW versions.
v.6 + is disappointing and simply just frustrating each and every release it seems. Now fine tune the current 5.12 model, at least so i can SEE it on my windows 8.0 and you just added another new fanboy to your audience. :D

Seeing that story makes me feel that much better about my decision to go with Windows 7 Pro SP1 32-bit (w/XP Mode) as my next OS. I feel it'll be a smoother transition and that I'll be able to maintain most of the things I've grown to love. It has much the same feel as XP. I'm hoping that via "XP Mode" I'll even be able to use my emulators without having to keep another box hooked up solely for retro gaming.

I very well might use Comodo FW/D+ 5.10 on it too. I've played around with the Win7 FW and liked it a lot, but I've just fallen in love with D+. Either that or I'll go with the native FW and Malware Defender. After getting that granular control over apps it became like a drug to me, I can't go without it now. That's one of the reasons I went with Pro instead of Ultimate, because I didn't feel AppLocker gave me the type of control a classic HIPS can instead provide. That and I don't trust BitLocker as much as open source TrueCrypt. And those would have otherwise been the only 2 reasons to have Ultimate over Pro for me.

Don't even get me started about classical HIPS. You are oh so right about the absolute integrity AND control they provide, hands down with bare minimum if any, resource/memory hit.

AV's let their guard down so often which just reenforces the positive benefits and true protection that a good classical HIPS brings to the table A huge success without equal. Some might could even compare them on the level of a manual LV since once configured via that granularity that you mention, nearly if not all non-compliant internal interactions are subject to be flushed, but in real time.

Now that's called bringing home the bacon in my book. :thumb:
