    Hi Gurus,

    Please help me with my setup

    You add/ remove/ install / uninstall different security apps, please give me an advice...

    My Setup
    + SBIE Paid = A must
    + Shadow Defender = Masterpiece Software
    + Spybot - S&D = Not necessary for me, but I always install it
    + MBAM Pro = I can't live without it
    + ESS V. 5 = Maybe is not the best Av solution but I really like it, the problem is its firewall, is not robust and HIPS is hard to import or export, create rules, and I dont have the time to learn how ESET HIPS works, besides I know ESET HIPS is a headache (extremely low-end, buggy, in learning mode I was bombarded with a storm of notifications...Well you get the idea)

    I would love to install OFWP but it seems is not compatible with NOD32 since version 5.

    The main question with my setup above is how to make my actual firewall more robust?

    Finally, I don't understand why some user are trying to stay away from HIPS completely, can someone please explain me that part ?

    Is there a particular reason you are still on ESS 5? ESS 6 has a much improved HIPS module!

    Hi Matt,

    For me ESS 6 is buggy, that is why I still have ESS 5 V. 5.2.15.0 AND ESS 6 is harder to play nice with MBAM PRO V. 1.75.0.1300, that is why I am asking how to make ESS 5 Firewall more robust, not only for browsing also if I want to install new programs.

    As for the HIPS, I use in in the default automatic mode as a part of the Self Defense system in the product, as I have no need to use it as a classic HIPS wich is what it will turn into if you change it to interactive.

    But have you tried to use the Learning mode for 1 week so rules will be created automatically?

    Just because I know how to create rules with ESS Firewall, and OFWP only!

    If I install a different firewall, I will have to read the entire manual and it takes time, to learn how to create rules and blah, blah, blah..

    The first one (avast, sbie,.k9) is really all you need if you run sensitive apps sandboxed id be frankly amazed if you could get something by it.

    You might as well not use the HIPS if you us it in default mode, it has no rules so how will it block anything?
    Policy based mode is the best, rock solid! Interactive is extremely annoying unless it's been in learning mode long enough

    • This mode is useful for a system administrator, who CAN create authorization rules.

    These rules are hidden and setup by the devs, but to find out if something is blocked I have to enable logging of blocked operations, and the log will fill up when something is blocked. And this mode only protects ESET it self via the Self Defense System module (so it cannot be shutdown by malware), and some critical parts of the OS.

    I've been throwing malware at it all day, and nothing has passed through.

    Quite an amazing setup if you ask me.

    Reactivated my useless netbook (Samsung NC-20, 1GB Ram, Via CPU...) for the sole purpose to put XP on it and get a look into DefenseWall.

    Just wondering, how does Macrium's license policy work? Is it lifetime or per-upgrade? I'm having a hard time to figure it out.

    And does anyone know what registry keys to put under OA's registry shield? For the time being I just made the list this way. All of them without the read protection.

Just added AppGuard...and Hitman Pro along with Hitman Pro's newly introduced...Browser Malware Protection Add On...it's Free...and a Very Useful Add-On...protects against Man In The Middle Attacks Etc. And of course Eset S.S.6 and WSA Security Plus. I'm using Hitman Pro as an On-Demand App. Sincerely...Securon
