I was about to look further into NVT, what exactly are the hang ups you are noticing? More annoyances than functionality or is NVT causing problems with other programs?

If that was some mystical summoning to attention in favor of the app which continues to stand the test of time, i have to agree.

On my windows 8 x64 it seems Sandboxie combo'ed along with the Light Virtualization security of Shadow Defender leaves no margin of concern anyplace i can find.

With secure boot uefi/gpt (built in), and Microsoft's own Patchguard, topped off with insanely annoying but effective strong UAC, all that's left is WFC when the next release comes out.

No more SEHOP for me. I was playing a game and my PC crashed. It never happened before. Just in case though, I also leave DEP to its default setting. It might be fine to enable it for all programs but eh, you'll never know.

And screw trauma, I'm messing around with ACL now. :D

Too bad GesWall is dead. It's probably the best free alternative to Sandboxie. :'(

Absolutely. GesWall would be something to really rave over by now had they kept it rolling forward.
Reminds me of another great AND FREE! app that Alcyon. AFAIK put over the top with his fantastically crafted rulesets. My all-time favorite that trumped over any commercial AV i ever used and drove me off from them for good on XP. The super-strong and easily configuarable EQSysecure!

    1) You can adjust Wizard shown after installation (personally, I additionally check "Whitelist all running processes")
    2) It has to be trained for few hours...just run/update all software that you have. After that it is ready for Lockdown mode....
Even if you get some "Blocked" popup later, go to Events tab, right click on entry-Whitelist.

It's not that hard, right? ;)

That autotrusting stuff... now THAT is indeed dumbing down. It can be done in Comodo that way too via it's trusted vendor list. I delete that thing ASAP because I feel such measures defeat much of the purpose I have for using a HIPS in the first place. I decide what I trust on my box. That's what my HIPS is there for.

But checking a box to remember a setting so you never have to do it again... that's just eliminating redundancy. I see nothing wrong there.

I saw you showing interest in using WinPatrol. If you're not a fan of dumbed down HIPS regimens... that would certainly be counterproductive for you to pursue that avenue. It's practically the poster child for it. Not hating on it or anything. For people that don't like HIPS or can't handle them it at least takes care of a few things with much less hassle & know-how, like hijacks and stuff. I used it years ago back when I pretty much just used Avira Free, XP's FW and my router.

I will drink to that my friend.

The reality is I do not like layers and the only 2 products I would really trust to keep me protected based on their sole ability are, Ikarus or Kaspersky.
