Tiny firewall is pretty cool and works well with WSA. I was testing it out a few days ago. The prompts are informative and it's really light on resources.

WinPcap is a driver that make or prevent the program from errors so it can run in win7

i am done with WinPatrol PLUS,my friend just did a malware test againts 10 samples and it fails very baddly:thumbd:

  5. It barks like an IDS, does not bite like a HIPS, the free version polls at intervals you can set, the Pro version cycles at intervals which make it feel like real time protection. So yes it normally warns very fast after the intrusion has taken place.

It tries to undo changes after the intrusion is detected, so technically not a HIPS which prevents a change from happening

Depending what the samples were most if not all av,s would fail.
No av is 100% perfect and ditching it for missing stuff seems odd.

Throw another mixed 10 samples at winpatrol and scotty may get more.
    Swings and roundabouts.:D

Switched back to CIS just because i like the simplicity of really having one app. That way i dont have to babysit two or more programs. Now im on the hunt for a web filter...

K9 is a great web filter. It also has parental controls and some other goodies. I highly recommend it.

No need to dumb anything down. Just tick the little box to remember the setting, and never see it again.

I liked k9 when I used it before but we had...problems. Every so often K9 would "Die" and wouldn't allow us to connect to ANY website until it was uninstalled.

Well, that's what I called a dumbing down. Also, in OA there's an option to auto trust anything that Emsisoft deems trustworthy and auto trust programs with valid digital signature. Yes, they suppress the popups, but if I don't want popups, then I think I shouldn't use a HIPS since the first place. :D

but I think we should have little/no popups on the stuff we use everyday and actually warn us when something unknown appears

HIPS is quite flexible though. You can make it as a spammer or policy-based. I just don't feel comfortable to lower the protection. Habit... :D

Was thinking of trying to see if winpatrol and NVT would play nice. What do you think; conflicts, overkill or potential?

Using both here, no problems at all (XP).
