I think Version 6 is a perfect gem. All software may sometimes conflict with other software. I have found Eset V6 to be outstanding in detection in the tests I have run.

You can run Avast, as your primary AV, and use Eset online scanner as a post mortem backup. It works well that way. And, Eset's free online scanner is stout, it would find whatever another AV missed. I used it on an infested PC belonging to a casual acquaintance after running Avast, and it hit on a few things Avast missed, this was about 3 years ago. However, the viruses had gotten behind the partition, and a reinstall had to be done. BUT, Eset fought the good battle....

I have tried all of the AV's over the years. Avast is probably the best overall, it keeps my rear end safe, and has since about 2006. As we know, no AV is perfect, but I have not found a better one, all things considered.

Ok ok ok, I have FINALLY settled on my on-demand scanners.
    - Hitman Pro: Single small files, whole PC scanning
    - Emsisoft Command Line Scanner: Recursive scanning and large files.

Ok, here's some bad news for XP fans and users: Saw an article on Yahoo Finance today, that said Microsoft is going to pull the plug on XP one year from now. Bummer. Guess I will have to come out of my shell, and learn a new operating system. I work for a major corporation that still has XP running in some areas. According to the article, 39 percent of PC's on the net still run XP....and why not? It is a good system, and very forgiving if you make a boo-boo.....comments? I know some of you still like XP....

To answer my own question- perhaps the switch to Ubuntu is on. If we cannot have XP updates anymore, it would seem to be a logical alternative. Thats where I would go, even though I don't care much for Ubuntu's user interface.

Windows 7 to me is the much improved XP

It's pretty stable at this point, I think it's at the stage of being quite great actually.

Have you given Windows 7 any thought?
