What is your security setup these days?

Discussion in 'other anti-malware software' started by dja2k, Dec 15, 2005.

  1. Hitman PRO
    MBAM PRO
    EMET 3.5
    Windows Firewall Control
    BCwipe - with transparent wiping
    DNScrypt
    Bleachbit
    CCleaner + CCenhancer
    PrivaZer
    VirtuialBox

Light and easy, with no stupid & clunky & heavy AV clogging up my system. No HIPS either, or Keyscrambler/Zemana or any of that gimmicky crap clogging up my system.

Isn't it amazing how this beta runs lighter!:thumb:

These apps were already running on my 'puter. I merely configured them to run sandboxed, all the way back to the program files, and notepads...I uninstalled Java long time ago, but allow Javascript to run on Opera. Flashplayer runs in my system files, with active X and plugins, but is sandboxed, totally. I have looked at NoScript, would like to give it a test drive when I get time. I don't use "thumb" drives, not that much going on in this box.

Real-time AV's... absolutely heavy/clunky. But my HIPS personally doesn't even make a noticeable impact on my box with a mere 1 gig of RAM. And since setting it up proper never gives me a popup. Don't know about Zemana, since it's useless with my HIPS. But KS... I've never seen anything lighter. Takes up 3.36 MB of HD space and no footprint at all. Nothing running real-time. Not sure if that's the case with v3 though, which is why I have no desire to upgrade.

I know the thing will probably never do me any good, but it's certainly not doing any harm either.

You wanna talk about clunky... VirtualBox certainly qualifies. That would make my box completely unusable. You need these modern 64-bit OS's and their 12 gigs of RAM just to run them without pulling all your hair out of your head. I'm not "quite" that paranoid. SBIE & Shadow Defender are sufficient without that huge resource hit. Heck a VM is even way worse than a real-time AV.

Sandboxie. What a great program. I'm trying to fine tune it as I learn how it works.

Thanks. I've gotten some great SBIE advice here on this forum.

Bitdefender is the BEST antivirus program available. Period. Always has been. Too bad the free version does not have active shields. If it did, I would be using it.

    Hi,

    my current setup :
    - emsisoft anti malware + Online armor - after many years skipping beetwen KIS and Emisoft, my definitive choice :) .
    - Mbam pro
    - Appguard - a great software indeed;)
    - Himan pro
    - Webroot SA and some others diagnosis tools like Killswitch...

It could seem to be a little overkill but I find it very light and absolutely trouble free. I have tried exe radar pro instead of appguard but encoutered some strange issues.

Think this is the longest i have stuck with a setup, 2 days and no changes.

    Win7 FW Advanced (Block in/out)
    EAM (Default Settings)
    NVT (Lockdown mode)
    Sandboxie (Firefox, MPCHC)
    NortonDNS

Still new to NVT Exe radar pro so just added processes i know to be safe like eam, sandboxie, etc auto allow windows files and stuck it on lockdown. Also uncheck auto allow files in program folders, as if something i need is block i just go to events tab and add it to whitelist. As i dont visit dodgy sites etc i can probs do without sandboxie but i like the fact of nothing touching the system and gets removed when i close firefox.
