    Just signed up!

Currently, I'm using (but going to change):
Norton Internet Security -- came free 1.5 year license, figured why not
    MalwareBytes Anti-Malware Pro
I upload to VirusTotal for any file I don't trust
I run suspicious files in Sandboxie -- I don't browse in Sandboxie.

I'm not sure I trust Norton anymore, even though nowadays it's supposed to be improved and different than the old days.

Based on AV-Comparatives and Virus Bulletin, I'm going to replace Norton with either F-Secure or Kaspersky. Both have high detection and removal rates without being as heavy as some others.

Lots of people in the last few pages of this thread seem to be in love with Webroot SecureAnywhere. I understand it's lightweight, but it's detection/removal is complete crap on av-comparatives.

I know I'm new here, but I swear I'm not here to troll, just trying to understand the fascination with WSA.

you say its removal is crap based on AV-C. Where do you get this from because it wasnt even included in the removal tests rom AV-C.

This much I can tell you, it has detected and removed everything I have thrown at it. If its removal was crap, I would not use it. People love it because it is very light, and protects well.

But do as you choose, Norton is also very good and you want to bail on it. Honestly, I think F-Secures removal is below par.

and in the removal test from November 2011, it was rated as Advance in removal. Number 6 out of 18 tested.

Honestly I don't base my choice on detection/removal anymore. I now look for performance, usability and resource impact. Any AV is good enough as I'm yet to catch an actual malware. Kaspersky is good. So is F-secure and WSA. But I love WSA for it's the lightest and fastest AV. BD is strong. Perhaps the strongest. But don't like its heaviness. EAM just fits my criteria. It's so smooth and powerful with BD engine.

    Just my two cents.;)

    +1

Same here, especially since nothing has gotten by Sandboxie yet, nothing is ever found in on-demand scans or by a behavior blocker I used for a couple of years. Honestly, I'd probably be okay using just Sandboxie and safe computing habits, but there's the comfort of having a few extra layers.

Look at the latest AV-Test for the score on how much an AV slows down the computer:
    http://www.av-test.org/en/tests/home-user/windows-7/sepoct-2012/
WSA scores a 1, when the average is 10 and the next lightest is MSE at 5. Not sure how they did it considering all the parts they put together to make Complete. Guess they know what they are doing.

    Gonna agree with you, Amit.
I run VIPRE along with SBIE, and it obviously does not lead the pack in detection or removal categories, but it sure suits me fine the way I use it.

Oh that's a tricky one. You gotta download the ERP pro version. During installation it'll ask for the license then if the license been already activated in another pc or whatever you'll have to enter the current password then choose a new password and confirm. Then it runs smooth as highway between two mountains.:D

+ infinity... Especially since measures like sandboxing, virtualization, imaging and good ol' hardening measures make detection/removal quite moot.

How often does anyone in here ever need to detect or remove anything, other than when they're testing malware? It hasn't happened to me in about 7-8 years. So why hold myself hostage with a bloated, unresponsive box over it?

Actually I haven't had to remove anything in a longer time than that and I don't use sandboxes, virtualization and hardening measures. :)

Exactly my point Hammer. And I most likely could've gotten by all this time without all of the above too... just a NAT router and my head. Maybe NoScript too. In fact I only stumbled upon SBIE about a year ago. Up until then I lugged around a real-time AV too, like a millstone.

    Aaaahhhh...
I have decided to give an opportunity to NVT ERP cause I'm pretty disappointed with v6 beta so far. :(
Looks like it is becoming too bloated for my taste.
CIS v5 runs in my virtual machine and I test it every day against 0-day malware.
I'm also working on improving their whitelist by submitting unknown applications and on product translation for Croatian language.
I hope Comodo devs will listen to their long-term and experienced users and adjust it to their wishes.
