You could create a thread over Other Software & Services to see if anyone can help you solving your problem. A proper description of the problem, including the error code would be helpful. :)

I did have a problem with Windows Update sometime ago, and managed to solved it. The other day, after updating Adobe Reader X in a relative's system, I no longer could update Windows Update their, not access some Microsoft websites, but I managed to solve it after quite some research.

Just don't give up yet. :)

I purchased a used Macbook and absolutely love it with Mountain Lion but I also really like windows 7 and all the available software.IMO and short but growing experience with mac,OS X has been rock solid stable and secure but its still nice to have both.

Just to let you know Ultimate list is the main Adblock List, Tracking List, Enhanced Trackers List and Annoyances List. ;)
AFAIK ScriptNo and NoScript are not the same. And ScriptNo is far inferior.

Still looking for a PrevX replacement for my main Win boxes.

Webroot and Trusteer are not options. Needs to be Chrome Dev/Canary compatible.

I added Nod32 back to my setup. Will see how it goes...

  12. Uninstalled
    - Bitdefender AV Plus
    - HitmanPro

    Installed
    - Microsoft Security Essentials 4.1.522.0 (a few process exclusions in place)
    - VT Uploader

This is non-shared laptop, so don't really need additional software and MSE does the job for me.

What does non-shard have to do with anything? I didn't realize that only shared pc's needed more protection.

Other then not needing additional user accounts for a single user,But I really cant see why less security would be needed by removing BD and Hitman Pro for MSE and VT.Umm, not sure about that move but to each there own.

If the only user is educated and knows what they are doing, they probably need less protection. On multi-user setup more protection is logical, because usually not all users are equally educated.

I highly disagree. Knowledgable or not. He removed BD cause he has a pathetically slow Internet connection so BD updates were taking up his bandwidth. No one else uses my pc and look at my config. BD servers were slow for about 48 hours but that has been addressed. It's pretty funny actually. Go from the best detection to the worst detection. Like driving a Mercedes then turning around age driving a Yugo.

Well I don't agree with you either. If I had to choose between BD and MSE, I would probably choose MSE. Detection is not that important for me (no AV has a 100% detection rate). False positives, system impact and compatibility with other software are much more important. If AV is making someone's computing experience bad then changing it is logical to me.

I agree that Malwarbytes is good, but this just tells me that a single application cannot remove everything. And I guess this is true for every security software.;)

MSE detection rate isn't even 90%. It fails most tests out there. And yes no av is 100% effective. Thats common knowledge. But if someone asked "What is a good free av?" I certainly would not recommend MSE. I would tell them Avast or Panda Cloud. I am only using BD cause I got it for a mere $7. MSE is a joke and always has been.

You uninstalled HitmanPro? o_O o_O  :ouch: o_O And Bitdefender AV is very light. You replaced top notch protection with MSE? Bitdefender has been scoring the top place in nearly all the tests for some time now. Do you mind sharing the reason of uninstalling it? Were you trialing the app? Was is heavy on your system or giving you a prob?
