After reading this: http://cyberlaw.stanford.edu/node/6730 and a few other sites, removed Ghostery and re-did my Adblock Plus lists to Fanboy's ads, tracking and annoyances.

edit: Now using Fanboy's Ultimate List.

Easylist & Easyprivacy suit me just fine. Fanboy's annoyances block my FB and Twitter integration.

Now it's a solid setup. I strongly recommend sandboxie. It'll amazingly strengthen your setup.:D What is your backup plan? Imaging app? Cloud backup? You could try SecurityKiss as a secure VPN.;)

Very good move. You could add NoScript if you can handle it of course.:D

Glad you posted that, I hadn't seen that option when adding the Fanboy's lists. Looks like the Ultimate has what I was using plus an additional list, Enhanced Trackers List.

I'll try NoScript again, which in Chrome I think is ScriptNo.

The Stanford Law School article was excellent. Numerous positive statements can be found within the article regarding Ghostery.
The mozillaZine thread, otoh, takes a turn south with the post that asks, "Did you ever notice that Ghostery belongs to Better Advertising company?"
When someone suggests that "Better Advertising after all it is only a name", the respondent way overplays the FUD card with, "Hitler is only a name, but you planning to name your kids that?". Ugh. Pretty bad.

Cut back to the Stanford Law School article, and we find Andy Kahl, Ghostery Product Manager, contributing this...
    As Kahl further points out,
"Don’t forget, it (GhostRank)’s opt-in", and encourages folks to "Dig a little deeper". He adds,
My take is that Ghostery explains itself quite well. One or two of the mozillaZine posters seemed a bit over-the-top in the paranoia department. I am glad that justenough posted the link to the info for us. But after reading all of it, I wasn't even moved to opt-out of GhostRank, let alone remove Ghostery.

there is a whole thread (a couple actually) devoted to ScriptNo here at Wilders.
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/search.php?searchid=4803818

the consensus is that SN is nowhere near as effective as NS.

You may be right, but there are also things said elsewhere about Ghostery like what's quoted below. Since there is duplication between Ghostery and Fanboy's Ultimate List, I went with just ABP.

    http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2012/06/ghostery.html

"The privacy impact of Ghostery is something completely different though, as it's made to transmit hit-stats back to Ghostery (unless you explicitly opt-out of this). Fun thing is: even if you've opted out, some of that "aggregate data" is transferred as soon as the addon updates it's rules.
I think this is presents a privacy impact which is comparable to the impact the resources blocked by the addon would have." - Mike August 19, 2012

I'm trying to decide if my new security setup will include Windows at all in 2013. I'm seriously considering a Mac and forgetting all this nonsense.

My Windows Update UPDATER is now broken. None of the online suggestions (of which there are about a half dozen with my error code) has worked. I can't update a critical security patch with without a new updater for my updates! I'm tired of this crap.

Reformat and reinstall Windows. Its that easy. I also have been looking into a Mac Book Pro. But the whopping $1700 price tag is shying me away. :(
