My first flash drive was an Imation 1GB which cost me about $20. Not too long later, prices dropped and I got an Imation 2GB (twice the size man) for about the same price. At that time, I wished I waited. Nevertheless, it's a been a few years now and these 2 are still working for me. In a way, I've grown to trust these as being reliable. Last year, I bought a Verbatim portable hard disk ITB USB3.0 for about $150. I also grabbed a Sandisk Cruzer 8GB (USB 2.0) for $12. There were other models with bigger capacity inc. USB 3.0 ones but I didn't feel like paying more. I'm hoping these 2 will stand the test of time.
Other, I don't have a favorite. I have several, none of them listed above. Two I use the most are pq1 drives.
I hope mine lasts forever too but we all know that is not going to happen, sooner or later its going to fail so i have my backup plan with my HDD.
I don't want anything with a retractable connector- just my personal preference. I like Corsair, PNY, and Transend. (I'm not USB 3.0 capable).
Good for you. I don't really have a backup plan. Those drives are relatively new so I'm counting on them. My pockets refuse to allow me the luxury
I just buy whatever is the cheapest - I have no preference for a particular brand. The last flash drives I bought were really cheap no name ones direct from China (with free shipping) as they were cheaper than anything I could by locally.
I also go for the cheapest available. Most are PNY because I was able to get a fantastic deal at Staples. 16GB for $6. Never had any trouble with them.
I have used several Brands with good success: Patriot, Kingston, Mushkin and Team. I recommended Mushkin for where I work. I have these Mushkins formatted NTFS and Vaccinated with Panda USB Vaccine. One of the most popular USB Flash Drives is the Patriot XPORTER. However, the Patriot XPORTER is very bulky and can physically block an adjacent USB port.
Ironkey was my favorite but now Imation owns them I don't trust the security any more. So Patriot is my favorite now
Don't really have one, but I tend to buy cheaper ones. My current favourite drive is my 32GB ADATA S102 Pro Advanced USB 3.0.
I just look at price, speed and reviews on newegg.com for the available models I'm considering. Lately I've been buying Kingston flash drives.
i am using kingston 2gb data traveler and transcend 8gb i found kingston very reliable as i used is very much even format many times and its been 7+ years old i dont remember exactly when i bought it
i got a 16GB Verbatim USB2.0 stick lately but i'm massively disappointed, as it has a write speed of ~3MB/s. have seen other Verbatim's with same writing speed. will avoid this brand. for approx. 4 years i'm using a 8GB "silicon power" USB2.0 stick. writing speed 12-17 MB/s, love it.
I wait for holiday sales, like Black Friday to shop for portable drives (USB, externals, etc.). Only other factor I consider is the size, as I don't need it blocking me from using another port.
I have never had an Adata USB Flash Drive. I remember that there is an Adata USB Flash Drive model on NewEgg that has really high ratings and lots of User Feedback Reviews.
I got my Adata flash drive a couple of months ago. I used to have twinmos flash drives before. The Adata flash drive is 16 GB and this model. So far so good. It's water and impact resistant. You could give Adata flash drives a try.
I have Memorette, Sandisk Cruzer, CellDisk, IOCELL, LG XTICK, from 1 to 16GB, no favorite. As my new machine has USB 3 ports I'm curious about the speed of dedicated flash drives, but they are still too expensive.
