Well I used AVG Free 2013 and the only way I got site ratings was to use there own safe search. If I used Google,Yahoo,Ask or Bing I did not get ANY site ratings. And yes AVG Search yields poor results.
That's what I said, actually. AVG's own search engine replaced AVG LinkScanner Search-Shield component, which used to provide search engine ratings. AVG LinkScanner 2013 now only has the Surf-Shield component, which protects against browser exploits, and does not provide any ratings. I hope I was more clear this time.
I will until the day you can provide me with vital information that toolbars are malicious. Till then have a nice day Mr. Anderson.
WOT is the only one that doesn't slow down my internet. It's not incredibly accurate but give some info about the site as well as a whois link. I mainly just disable js & flash, have a resident av or sandboxie and all is good.
Of course it doesn't slow anything down. It doesn't run in real time and is merely a browser site advisor add on. Traffic Light can also be installed just as a browser add on.
Very true..............But when is the last time you saw MSE or CNN hacked? Or Cnet,Majorgeeks,Filehippo,Downloadcrew or even this site?
I tried traffic light before and it was a pain, slowing down my internet speed and not being all that helpful anyway, at least not much more helpful than WOT if it's not scanning real time. I believe WOT uses other resource info besides ratings so I'm good with that. If I want another web scanner/link checker I'll just re-enable my Kaspersky web scanner component but I have that disabled for now as well. These web site raters/scanners/ whatever (except for WOT) seem to cause my internet to slow if used in combo with ad muncher and AM is more valuable to me...so it's WOT or nothing.
Yeap... Unfortunately those who bash WOT don't even understand the reasoning behind it. As I write there have been 46 million downloads (only from the main site)... a lot of people wronged. I am, proudly, one of the morons.
I voted for Other; Dr.Web AV LinkChecker and VirusTotal (Browser Extensions). Please note, I do not use either of the above on my default web browser.
This is not a favorite. As I mentioned above I don't use one. I did try this Firefox extension out a while back. There is way to much in it, most can be turned off, and it's more of a tool bar, something I avoid, but it does provide results from Web of Trust, McAfee SiteAdvisor Web Security Guard, Browser Defender, Norton Safe Web and other like sites. Even a couple that rated ethics. Some may find it useful, I didn't, except perhaps to compare or for fun. I've never used any link scanners, and probably never will. A nice concept, but often badly implemented. WOT and SiteAdvisor have countless instances where software websites containing non malicious software, are given bad ratings due to the safe software somehow being malicious (when it most deinfately isn't). Maybe some of the alternatives fare better? I've never had much of a look, as I'd rather make my own decision about the safety of websites than relying on a 3rd party source.
Used WOT for a bit then realized I don't visit many websites anyway (and most of the websites I visit are popular and trusted), so it's pointless to keep it.
